Summary:
The primary responsibility of a phlebotomist is to support in carrying out various assigned tasks, problem-solving, training, and suggesting workflow improvements.
Position Responsibilities:
Experience conducting blood draws, labeling samples, spinning specimens, documenting maintenance data and decontamination, updating patient details, etc. Gathers and maintains samples following established procedures. Accurately explains the venipuncture (blood withdrawal) process and/or other specimen collection (e.g. urine or fecal) when necessary. Demonstrates techniques using various equipment. Fully comprehends all physicians' instructions. Matches requisition forms with specimen tubes. Labels, spins, splits, and freezes specimens as per test order. Verifies all test requisitions for accuracy. Prepares specimens for transportation. Stores samples at required temperatures, places them in suitable containers, labels accurately, and follows specific protocols for transport to preserve sample integrity. Ads to OSHA and DEP regulations. Attends annual departmental trainings. Answers phone calls, reads lab results to address inquiries.
Minimum Qualifications:
Valid certification in Phlebotomy for the state of employment as necessary in certain states. At least 6 months of experience conducting venipunctures in a high-paced lab or hospital environment. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. High School Diploma or GEDa minimum of 2 - 4 years of experience
