Job Title:
Phlebotomist - Dearborn Job Description This phlebotomist role focuses on performing high-volume, accurate blood draws in an outpatient setting while ensuring proper specimen processing and packaging for shipment to an external laboratory. You will collaborate closely with clinic staff to coordinate daily blood draw schedules and sample pickups, gaining strong hands-on experience in both stationary and float assignments. Responsibilities Perform approximately 25-30 blood draws per day, ensuring accurate and efficient venipuncture and specimen collection. Collect blood samples following established phlebotomy procedures and the correct order of draw for multiple tube collections. Process specimens according to protocol, including proper labeling, handling, and preparation for transport. Package blood samples securely and correctly for shipment to the designated medical testing facility. Communicate daily with clinic staff to organize and schedule blood draws for patients. Coordinate pickup times and shipping logistics for collected samples to ensure timely delivery to the testing site. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area that complies with clinical and laboratory standards. Follow all established procedures for specimen integrity, patient identification, and documentation. Adapt to both stationary and float assignments, working effectively in varying outpatient clinic environments. Contribute to a collaborative team environment by sharing information, supporting colleagues, and maintaining professional communication. Essential Skills At least 6 months of experience as a Phlebotomist or Medical Assistant with responsibilities in drawing, processing, and packaging blood samples. Proficiency in venipuncture and routine blood draw techniques. Demonstrated experience completing at least 200 solo blood draws. Strong knowledge of the correct order of draw for multiple tube collections. Ability to identify and follow BD Vacutainer order of draw tube colors. Experience with specimen collection and specimen processing in an outpatient or clinical setting. Phlebotomy or Medical Assistant certification or certificate. High school diploma or equivalent education. Ability to manage daily workload of 25-30 blood draws while maintaining accuracy and patient care. Effective communication skills for coordinating with clinic staff and other team members. Additional Skills & Qualifications Hands-on phlebotomy experience in outpatient clinical settings. Comfort working both in stationary roles at a primary site and in float positions at offsite clinics. Reliability and schedule flexibility, with the ability to commit to the role without planned time off in the first 90 days. Strong attention to detail in labeling, processing, and packaging specimens for shipment. Organizational skills to coordinate daily schedules, sample pickups, and shipping logistics. Professionalism and customer service mindset when interacting with patients and clinic staff. Willingness to learn and grow, with opportunities for performance-based raises after six months. Work Environment This position is based in an outpatient clinical environment with a mix of stationary and float assignments. Standard hours are Monday through Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The team at the main site includes approximately 15 colleagues, while offsite locations typically have between 0 and 2 other team members, and in some locations you may work with 0-3 coworkers. The role involves regular coordination with clinic staff and frequent handling, processing, and packaging of blood specimens for shipment to a separate testing facility. The dress code requires navy blue scrubs, supporting a professional and consistent clinical appearance. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Dearborn, MI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $22.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
