Overview:
As a Phlebotomist in this well-established clinical setting, you will play a vital role in supporting patient diagnosis and treatment by expertly collecting blood and other specimens. Responsibilities:
Perform blood draws and specimen collections accurately and efficiently, including venipunctures using straight and butterfly needles. Label specimens correctly, ensuring all data matches requisition forms and computer records. Centrifuge, split, freeze, and package specimens per protocol, maintaining sample integrity during transport. Record maintenance data, decontaminate work areas, and ensure all lab equipment is properly cleaned and maintained. Explain procedures courteously and clearly to patients, helping to reduce anxiety and ensure cooperation. Understand and follow all physician's orders as well as OSHA and environmental safety regulations. Assist with specimen storage and temperature control protocols. Attend annual training sessions and participate in ongoing department education. Respond to inquiries from healthcare staff and read laboratory results as needed.
Required Skills:
Valid phlebotomy certification for the state of employment, or appropriate state-specific licensing. At least 6 months of professional experience performing venipunctures in a busy clinical or hospital setting. Proficiency with laboratory procedures including specimen labeling, centrifuging, and storage. Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills. Effective communication and patient engagement skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite to manage documentation and lab data. Nice to
Have Skills:
Experience with laboratory information systems or electronic health records (EHR). Additional certifications in specimen handling or related healthcare skills. Experience working with diverse patient populations.
Preferred Education and Experience:
High school diploma or GED equivalent. Minimum of 6 months of hands-on venipuncture experience in a laboratory or hospital setting. Additional coursework or certifications related to laboratory procedures.
Other Requirements:
Schedule:
Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM (with a start time around 9:30 AM).
Duration:
8 to 12 weeks, with possibility of extension based on department needs. Physical requirements include standing for extended periods and manual dexterity for specimen collection. Must be compliant with OSHA and environmental safety standards. Ability to adapt to timely, accurate specimen handling and documentation.
