Job Description
Overview Trains to become a Phlebotomist I. Advanced training to gain competencies in a variety of patient/specimen types and age groups. Learns to perform a variety of clerical duties, as well as a wide range of customer service-related functions. Responsibilities Learns to perform various assigned functions related to demographic data, test requisitioning, keyboarding, data entry, updating, uploading, making encounters and printing of files labels and reports. Expands on skills learned in in DH phlebotomy training program or on the job phlebotomy Demonstrates ability to retrieve and provide Demonstrates ability to identify patients and labels specimens following departmental procedure. Obtains a quality blood and/or urine specimen from patients. Collects and enters off-site blood work into Demonstrates ability to identify proper resources for obtaining specimen requirement informa Responds to radio and text pages and collects samples from patients as Maintains and tracks patient wait times. Demonstrates ability to utilize the pneumatic tube system (PTS) or hand carry specimens to the Laboratory. Demonstrates ability to complete and process a variety of forms, as dictated by the department. Obtains pre-authorizations and patient signatures. Performs other duties as required or assigned. Qualifications High school graduate or the equivalent required. Graduate of phlebotomy training program and up to 6 months phlebotomy experience. At the end of training period, take and pass the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) Phlebotomy Technician (PBT) certification Previous experience working in a medical setting preferred. Strong communication and interpersonal skills required. Proven experience working with the public desired. Familiarity with computers desired. Applicant must be able to organized, and detail oriented. Required Licensure/Certifications
