Responsibilities:
Perform venipuncture and capillary draws on a diverse patient population, including pediatric and geriatric patients, ensuring safety and comfort. Prepare and process specimens accurately, adhering to established procedures for labeling, handling, and documentation. Verify patient demographic information and ensure proper labeling directly in the presence of the patient, maintaining strict chain-of-custody and quality standards. Maintain accurate records of all collections and ensure compliance with confidentiality and safety protocols. Provide exceptional customer service by communicating procedures clearly, addressing patient concerns, and creating a positive, trust-filled environment. Perform specimen processing duties as required, supporting laboratory operations to ensure timely testing and results delivery. Adhere to all safety policies, dress code, and regulatory requirements, promoting a professional and safe environment at all times. Work independently and collaboratively across multiple locations, demonstrating flexibility to meet staffing needs, including weekends, holidays, and overtime when necessary.
Required Skills:
Minimum of three years of phlebotomy experience, including pediatric, geriatric, and capillary collections. Certified in phlebotomy (preferred but not mandatory; certification required in certain states). Exceptional venipuncture skills with a focus on safety, accuracy, and patient comfort. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in specimen handling and documentation. Excellent communication and customer service skills to foster positive patient interactions. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment. Keyboard/data entry proficiency to ensure accurate data management. Nice to
Have Skills:
Experience in a Patient Service Center environment. Medical assistant or paramedic training. Knowledge of laboratory safety standards and regulatory compliance. Flexibility to travel between multiple locations and adapt to varying schedules.
Preferred Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent required. Three or more years of professional phlebotomy experience, especially in diverse patient populations. Training as a medical assistant or paramedic is a plus.
Other Requirements:
Must hold a valid driver's license, have reliable transportation, and a clean driving record (if travel is required). Availability to work flexible hours, including weekends, holidays, and on-call shifts based on staffing needs. Physical ability to handle specimen collection and processing tasks, including standing for extended periods. Current phlebotomy certification is preferred; certification is mandatory in certain states.
