Phlebotomist, Per Diem, Pre Procedure, MMC

Supports completion of pre-admission testing by performing venipuncture for bloodwork, electrocardiogram (EKG), vital signs, height and weight for each patient as ordered by the provider.

Principal Accountabilities:

1) Performs venipuncture in a safe environment, including positive patient identification using the two-identifier system. 2) Enters Computerized Laboratory Order Entry in Softlab as ordered by the provider. Releases Epic orders and Softlab orders. 3) Transcribes orders as needed into Epic system from paper forms. 4) Performs correct test as ordered by the provider. Uses laboratory references to ensure correct testing codes and correct collection tubes/ containers are utilized. 5) Contacts provider for prescription or order clarification as needed. 6) Maintains asepsis and disposes of sharps properly. 7) Properly labels tubes and promptly sends tubes to the OP Lab for processing. 8) Performs electrocardiogram (EKG) as ordered by provider. 9) Performs vital signs including, temperature, pulse, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, height and weight. 10) Communicates abnormal EKG/vital signs to RN. High School Diploma, GED or equivalent required Phlebotomy certification highly preferred 3-5 years of experience as a phlebotomist or relevant area preferred
