What You'll Be Doing:
Drawing high-quality blood specimens from patients of all ages, including pediatric and geriatric populations, ensuring accuracy and safety. Preparing specimens for laboratory testing in accordance with established protocols and quality standards. Explaining procedures clearly and compassionately to patients to foster trust and reduce anxiety. Providing coverage at various sites such as patient service centers, mobile clinics, long-term care facilities, and in-office environments, adapting seamlessly to different workflows. Acting as a leader and resource for new staff, mentoring team members, and providing effective onboarding support. Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams including laboratory staff, IT, billing, and logistics to coordinate complex testing needs and ensure smooth operations. Managing multiple priorities efficiently in high-volume settings while maintaining confidentiality and adherence to compliance standards. Taking on additional responsibilities such as coaching or supervising other phlebotomy staff as needed.
Required Skills:
Minimum of five years of professional phlebotomy experience, including pediatric, geriatric, and capillary collections. Proven ability to perform blood draws skillfully in diverse patient populations. Excellent customer service skills with the ability to communicate clearly and empathetically. Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks in high-pressure environments. Proficiency in keyboarding and data entry to record specimen information accurately. Demonstrated leadership qualities, including mentoring and guiding less experienced team members. Ability to handle multiple priorities efficiently and uphold confidentiality. Nice to
Have Skills:
Prior experience working in a patient service center, inpatient, or outpatient setting. Medical assistant, paramedic training, or certifications preferred. Experience working with complex test orders or specialty practices. Exposure to IT connectivity and billing processes related to lab services. Bilingual abilities to assist diverse patient populations.
Preferred Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent required. Medical assistant or paramedic training preferred. Phlebotomy certification highly preferred; certification required in California, Nevada, and Washington. At least five years of phlebotomy experience, demonstrating versatility across patient populations and settings. Experience in customer-focused environments such as retail or service industries is beneficial.
Other Requirements:
Valid certifications (where applicable) in phlebotomy. Ability to work flexible schedules, including occasional evenings or weekends, depending on location needs. Willingness to travel between multiple sites and adapt to various work environments. Physical ability to perform blood draws, including standing for extended periods and handling medical equipment.
