FTE Work Schedule:
Monday Friday with 8 10-hour shifts between 0600 and 2000. Shifts are normally scheduled for a 9-hour period including an uncompensated 60-minute lunch break. Contract workers will not exceed 40 scheduled hours per week.
Duty hours may include:
0600 1500, 0630 1530, 0700 1600, 0730 1630, 0800 1700, 0830 1730, 0900 1800, 0930 1830, 1000 1900, 1030 1930, or 1100 2000.
Qualifications:
Education:
Graduate from a medical phlebotomy training program accredited by
NAACLS OR ABHES OR
Educational program accepted by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP)
Experience:
One year of phlebotomy experience preferred. Must possess the required clinical hours required by the certification institution. Experience performing venipuncture and specimen collection in a clinical laboratory setting.
License/Certification:
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Current Phlebotomy certification/registration through the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or American Medical Technologists (AMT).
Responsibilities:
Perform venipuncture and specimen collection procedures for patients ranging from infant to geriatric populations with varying health conditions. Collect blood specimens utilizing appropriate phlebotomy techniques while maintaining specimen integrity and positive patient identification standards. Provide verbal and written specimen collection instructions to patients. Address patient concerns related to specimen collection procedures in a professional manner. Transport collected specimens to designated laboratory departments in accordance with established laboratory procedures. Perform specimen pour-offs and aliquoting procedures. Enter, verify, document, and maintain patient laboratory data using the approved Laboratory Information System (LIS). Ensure laboratory results are relayed and/or faxed to the appropriate ordering facilities and providers. Adhere to Infection Control procedures, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements, and facility standard operating procedures at all times. Maintain competency and proficiency training required to perform laboratory functions. Perform only those duties for which documented training and competency verification have been completed. Provide instruction and training to laboratory personnel and MTF staff when designated as a Preceptor/Instructor. Monitor supply inventory levels and communicate supply requirements through approved procedures. Perform inventory and expiration date inspections on laboratory supplies and materials. Maintain professional interaction with patients, providers, and staff members at all times. Elevate laboratory or patient care concerns to laboratory management when appropriate. Ensure compliance with local, state, federal, safety, and accreditation standards governing laboratory operations. Maintain accurate documentation supporting laboratory operations and patient care activities.
