What You'll Do:
Perform blood draws and specimen collections efficiently and with minimal discomfort to patients across diverse age groups and backgrounds. Prepare samples for laboratory testing by labeling, centrifuging, splitting, and storing specimens according to strict protocols. Clearly explain procedures to patients, ensuring they feel comfortable and informed during collections. Accurately match requisition forms to specimens, ensuring proper labeling, documentation, and handling. Maintain specimen integrity by following temperature requirements, packaging for transport, and adhering to safety and OSHA regulations. Handle specimen storage, documentation, and transport while ensuring compliance with all relevant protocols. Maintain a clean, sanitized, and organized work environment, including specimen decontamination and equipment maintenance. Assist with answering inquiries, reading laboratory results, and supporting team efforts as needed. Attend departmental training sessions to stay current with best practices and safety standards.
Required Skills:
Proven experience performing venipuncture and specimen collection, including blood draws with both straight and butterfly needles. Strong knowledge of laboratory specimen processing, including labeling, centrifuging, and storage. Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain procedures courteously and clearly. Attention to detail and accuracy to ensure specimen integrity and compliance with protocols. Familiarity with OSHA, CLIA, and other safety regulations in a clinical setting. Ability to work efficiently independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team. Bilingual skills, especially in Spanish, highly preferred to serve diverse patient populations. Nice to
Have Skills:
Pediatric blood collection or experience working with pediatric patients. Additional certifications in phlebotomy or medical assisting. Experience with laboratory information systems and electronic medical records.
Preferred Education and Experience:
Certification as a Phlebotomy Technician (e.g., NCPT, ASCP). Prior experience in a clinical laboratory or healthcare setting. Pediatric phlebotomy experience is a plus, but candidates with strong general phlebotomy skills are encouraged to apply.
Other Requirements:
Schedule:
Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM and every Saturday from 7:30 AM to 1:00 PM. Certification in phlebotomy or medical assisting preferred. Ability to stand for extended periods, perform fine motor tasks, and handle specimens safely. Must wear appropriate PPE and comply with all safety standards. Candidate should demonstrate professionalism, reliability, and a patient-first attitude. Physical requirements include the ability to lift and transport specimens and equipment as needed.
