Job Title:
Phlebotomist II Job Description The primary role of a Phlebotomist II is to support various tasks, troubleshoot issues, provide training, and offer workflow recommendations. This position requires proficiency in performing blood draws, specimen labeling, centrifuging, and maintaining data and decontamination records. The role is essential in ensuring efficient specimen collection and storage following established procedures. Responsibilities Conduct blood draws and label specimens accurately. Centrifuge specimens and record maintenance data. Decontaminate and update patient information efficiently. Collect and store specimens according to established procedures. Clearly and courteously explain the process of venipuncture and other specimen collections. Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles. Fully understand all physicians' orders and match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes. Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders. Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts for accuracy. Package specimens for transport and store sample specimens at required temperatures. Ensure samples are placed in appropriate collection containers/tubes and accurately labeled. Follow procedures specific to protocols necessary for transport to maintain specimen integrity. Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations. Attend annual department trainings. Answer telephone inquiries and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries. Essential Skills Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment, as required in some states. Minimum of 6 months' experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite. High School Diploma or
GED. 2-4
years of relevant experience. Additional Skills & Qualifications Strong customer service skills. Ability to troubleshoot and make workflow recommendations. Work Environment This role operates in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting, where adherence to safety and procedural protocols is crucial. Employees must comply with OSHA and DEP regulations. Professional attire is required to maintain a clean and safe work environment. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Liverpool, NY. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
