Role:
As a Lab - Phlebotomist, you will play a vital role in collecting blood and other specimens with precision and care. Your ability to put patients at ease, coupled with your technical proficiency, ensures smooth and efficient specimen collection across diverse patient populations. Responsibilities:
Perform blood draws and specimen collection using straight or butterfly needles, ensuring patient comfort and specimen integrity. Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens following established protocols. Prepare specimens for transport, ensuring they are stored at correct temperatures and properly packaged to maintain sample quality. Accurately verify physician orders and match laboratory requisition forms with specimen labels. Explain procedures clearly and courteously to patients, addressing any questions and reducing discomfort. Record maintenance data, update patient information, and ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards such as OSHA and DEP. Maintain laboratory equipment, perform decontamination, and ensure a clean and safe work environment. Assist with or perform routine specimen handling tasks like urine or fecal sample collection, as needed. Attend annual training sessions and stay up-to-date with best practices in phlebotomy and laboratory procedures. Respond to inquiries by reading and communicating laboratory results professionally. Other duties as assigned to support the laboratory team and ensure efficient operations.
Required Skills:
Proven experience performing venipuncture and specimen collection, including labeling and handling blood samples. Strong knowledge of laboratory procedures, specimen processing, and safety protocols. Excellent communication skills to explain procedures clearly and put patients at ease. Ability to accurately verify test requisitions and ensure specimen integrity. Attention to detail and organizational skills for documentation and specimen management. Familiarity with OSHA and DEP safety regulations and proper use of PPE. Have Skills:
Bilingual in Spanish and English to better serve diverse patient populations. Experience working in a clinical laboratory or medical setting. Knowledge of laboratory information systems and multiple specimen types. Certification in Phlebotomy (CPT or equivalent).
Preferred Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent required. Certification in Phlebotomy from an accredited program highly preferred. Previous experience as a phlebotomist in a healthcare or clinical setting is a plus. Familiarity with handling a broad demographic, including pediatric and geriatric patients.
Other Requirements:
Schedule:
Monday through Friday, 12:30 PM - 6:00 PM, with every other Saturday from 9:00 AM - 2:00 PM. Physical ability to stand for extended periods and perform venipuncture comfortably. Wear appropriate PPE and follow safety protocols at all times. Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all patient interactions. No travel required.
