Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Phlebotomist to join a well-established clinical setting committed to delivering high-quality patient care. Responsibilities:
Perform blood draws using various techniques, including straight needles and butterfly needles, ensuring minimal discomfort for patients. Explain procedures clearly and courteously, putting patients at ease during specimen collection. Collect, label, and process specimens such as blood, urine, and fecal samples according to established protocols. Prepare specimens for testing by centrifuging, splitting, freezing, and storing at appropriate temperatures, adhering to safety and quality standards. Accurately match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes, verifying test orders and labels to ensure 100% accuracy. Pack specimens securely for transport, maintaining proper temperature and integrity throughout the process. Maintain cleanliness, decontaminate work areas, and handle specimen samples in compliance with OSHA, DEP, and other relevant regulations. Record maintenance data, update patient information, and ensure all documentation is accurate and complete. Attend annual departmental training and stay informed about best practices and safety protocols. Answer telephone inquiries qualified with current laboratory results and assist with general patient and staff questions. Perform other related duties as assigned to support the clinical team's operational needs.
Required Skills:
Proven experience performing blood draws and specimen collection. Knowledge of laboratory processing procedures including labeling, centrifuging, and storage. Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to explain procedures courteously and clearly to patients of all ages and backgrounds. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills to ensure specimen integrity and testing accuracy. Ability to adhere strictly to safety and regulatory standards, including OSHA and environmental regulations. Proficiency in using laboratory requisitions, computer systems, and lab equipment. Have Skills:
Bilingual ability, particularly fluency in Spanish, to better serve diverse patient populations. Prior experience in a clinical laboratory, hospital, or outpatient setting. Certification from a recognized phlebotomy program or relevant medical assistant credentials. Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) systems.
Preferred Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent required. Certification in Phlebotomy from an accredited program highly preferred. Prior experience in blood collection, specimen handling, and basic laboratory procedures.
Other Requirements:
Schedule:
Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm, with additional shifts on Saturdays from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. Physical ability to comfortably perform blood draws, lift supplies, and stand for extended periods. Certification in phlebotomy (if applicable) or equivalent experience. Willingness to wear PPE and adhere to safety standards. The role may require occasional local travel between clinical sites, depending on operational needs.
