Job Description

Legal Entity Aultman Hospital Position Summary The primary purpose of the position is to draw blood and collect body fluid specimens in an accurate and safe manner as designated by the department policies and procedures under the direction of the Unit Director or designated Technical Specialist. Position requires rotation of location, shifts, weekend and holidays. Department Summary ALS provides lab, courier, and phlebotomy services for our local and surrounding counties (Stark, Wayne, Summit, Tuscarawas, and Holmes Counties). Qualifications High School Graduate Completion of a phlebotomy program Experience in Venipuncture preferred. Department Qualifications Skills Must be an experienced phlebotomist; able to work independently. Must be willing to travel and train at all outreach locations. Must be detail oriented. Be willing to work as a team. Has a strong desire to help others. Department Skills Responsibilities & Expectations Correct identification of the patient using patient name and date of birth Verification of Tests Specimen Procurement Proper labeling of specimens Proper specimen storage and transporting requirements. Post Venipuncture Workstation Maintenance Patient Relations Skills Team Skills Assists with training of students and new personnel. Adhere to hospital dress code policy and maintains a professional appearance. Follows universal precautions at all times. Working Conditions 6:30am-5:00pm M-F / 7:00am-12:00pm Saturday or hours as required by the job. Occasional weekends Subject to frequent interruptions and changes in priority of duties throughout the shift. Sitting/standing/moving about during working hours Hazardous Exposure Category Category I - Includes tasks that involve exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues. All procedures or other job-related tasks that involve an inherent potential for spills or splashes of, or mucous membrane or skin contact with blood, body fluids or tissues are Category I tasks. Use of appropriate protective measures is required for every employee engaged in Category I tasks.
