June 8, 2026 Position Overview We are seeking an experienced Travel Phlebotomist to join the laboratory team at Independence Health System in Latrobe, PA. This role supports hospital and outpatient laboratory operations through accurate specimen collection, processing, and patient care across multiple age groups including neonates, pediatrics, adults, and geriatrics. The ideal candidate is flexible with scheduling, experienced in high-volume hospital environments, and confident performing venipuncture and specimen handling procedures in fast-paced acute care settings. Schedule Primarily Night Shift coverage 5x8-hour shifts or occasional 4x10-hour shifts Shift examples include: 4:00 AM
  • 12:30 PM 12:00 PM
  • 8:30 PM 9:30 PM
  • 6:00 AM Key Responsibilities Perform venipuncture and capillary collections using Vacutainer methods Collect, process, label, store, and transport laboratory specimens accurately Perform pediatric collections including finger sticks and heel sticks Handle blood cultures, glucose testing, drug levels, and specialty collections Process specimens using centrifuges and proper storage techniques Follow CLSI standards for order of draw and specimen handling Maintain infection prevention and aseptic techniques Utilize Cerner charting system for documentation and data entry Support inpatient, outpatient, clinic, and blood bank settings Prioritize STAT, timed, and routine specimen collections Ensure compliance with quality assurance and laboratory safety standards Required Qualifications Minimum 1-2 years of recent phlebotomy experience Previous travel experience required Community hospital and LTAC experience required Trauma Level I and II experience required Current BLS certification (AHA only) CPT certification required Valid Pennsylvania license or Compact License required at submission Required Skills Venipuncture and specimen collection Pediatric phlebotomy procedures Blood culture collection Point-of-care testing Specimen processing and transport Infection control and standard precautions Hazardous materials handling and proper disposal Patient care and communication Quality assurance and documentation
