Overview:
As a Lab - Phlebotomist, you'll be the friendly, skilled professional responsible for collecting blood specimens in a clinical setting. Responsibilities:
Draw high-quality blood samples from patients across all age groups, including pediatric and geriatric populations, ensuring safety and comfort. Prepare and label specimens accurately for laboratory testing, following established protocols and safety procedures. Explain procedures to patients with sensitivity and professionalism, creating a trusting atmosphere that alleviates anxiety. Maintain detailed records of collections, sample processing, and patient interactions in accordance with regulatory standards. Ensure the work environment adheres to safety guidelines, promoting a clean, organized, and professional setting. Collaborate effectively with clinical and administrative teams to support laboratory operations and patient services. Demonstrate leadership behaviors such as accuracy, confidentiality, and process excellence, handling specimens with care and precision.
Required Skills:
Proven proficiency in phlebotomy, including skills with pediatric and geriatric blood draws. Ability to perform in a fast-paced environment with high accuracy and attention to detail. Strong organizational skills and capability to maintain precise documentation and records. Excellent customer service skills, with the ability to communicate clearly and empathetically with patients. Competent keyboard and data entry skills to manage patient information and lab documentation efficiently. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, demonstrating professionalism and confidence. Knowledge of safety standards, specimen handling procedures, and confidentiality regulations. Have Skills:
Medical assistant or paramedic training. Phlebotomy certification (required in certain states such as California, Nevada, and Washington). Experience in a retail or service setting providing customer care. Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) systems and lab information management systems (LIS).
Preferred Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent is required. A minimum of 6 months of hands-on phlebotomy experience is required; over one year of experience is preferred. Additional medical training such as medical assistant or paramedic background is advantageous.
Other Requirements:
Flexibility to work Monday through Thursday, 8:30 am to 2:30 pm, and Friday mornings until 12:00 pm, with availability for weekends, holidays, or overtime as needed. Phlebotomy certification required in specific states to comply with licensing regulations. Ability to stand for extended periods and perform physically demanding tasks related to specimen collection. Strong commitment to accuracy, patient confidentiality, and process excellence in a clinical environment.
