Job Title:
Phlebotomist I - Summerville Job Description The primary role of a Phlebotomist I is to assist with various assigned duties, including troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations. The position involves performing blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging, and maintaining data records while decontaminating and updating patient information. Responsibilities Collect and store specimens according to established procedures. Explain the process of venipuncture and other specimen collection methods clearly and courteously. Demonstrate techniques using straight and butterfly needles. Fully understand and follow physicians' orders. Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes. Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order. Ensure all test requisitions or computer labels match scripts 100%. Package specimens for transport and store samples at the required temperature. Accurately label and place samples in appropriate collection containers or tubes. Follow specific protocols necessary for specimen transport to maintain integrity. Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations. Attend annual departmental trainings. Answer telephone inquiries and read laboratory results when necessary. Essential Skills Phlebotomy and blood draw skills. Experience with venipuncture and customer service. 1-2 years of current phlebotomy experience. High School Diploma or GED. Experience with all age groups, from pediatric to geriatric. Strong customer service skills. Experience with drawing 25+ patients per day and specimen processing. Additional Skills & Qualifications Must possess excellent customer service skills. Ability to work independently. Experience with glucose testing preferred. Experience with pap test and specimen processing. Work Environment The position is based in a women's health center, working alongside one other phlebotomist. The schedule is Monday through Thursday from 7:30 am to 5:00 pm and Friday from 7:30 am to 1:30 pm. The role involves drawing from 20-30 patients daily, performing specimen processing, glucose testing, and pap test specimen processing. It covers a leave of absence and could be extended beyond the initially planned dates.
