Phlebotomist Job Description The primary role of a phlebotomist is to assist in performing various duties, including troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations. The phlebotomist plays a vital part in ensuring efficient specimen collection and processing. Responsibilities Perform blood draws and label specimens accurately. Centrifuge specimens and record maintenance data. Decontaminate work areas and update patient information. Collect and store specimens following established procedures. Explain the venipuncture process and other specimen collections clearly and courteously to patients. Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and butterfly needles. Understand and follow physicians' orders precisely. Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes accurately. Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders. Ensure test requisitions or computer labels match the script with 100% accuracy. Package specimens for transport and store them at the required temperature. Follow procedures to maintain the integrity of specimens during transport. Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations. Attend annual department training sessions. Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to address inquiries. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Johnson City, TN. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
