Overview:
As a Lab - Phlebotomist, you will be the frontline representative connecting patients with high-quality healthcare services. Your expertise will ensure accurate specimen collection, proper documentation, and a reassuring patient experience. Responsibilities:
Draw blood samples from patients of all ages, including pediatric and geriatric populations, following established protocols. Prepare specimens for laboratory testing, ensuring proper labeling, handling, and documentation in accordance with compliance standards. Verify patient demographics and signatures post-collection to ensure sample integrity and accuracy. Maintain a clean, safe, and professional environment in all work areas. Provide exceptional customer service by explaining procedures to patients and addressing their concerns with compassion and professionalism. Manage and update patient records accurately, ensuring completeness and compliance with privacy policies. Follow all safety, health, and safety policies, including proper use of PPE and biohazard precautions. Assist in multiple locations as needed, demonstrating flexibility to meet staffing requirements, including weekends, holidays, and on-call shifts. Support process improvement initiatives and uphold a culture of quality and excellence. Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and patients to foster trust and transparency.
Required Skills:
Proven proficiency in venipuncture and capillary blood collection across diverse patient populations, including pediatric and geriatric patients. Strong attention to detail and accuracy in specimen labeling and documentation. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with patients and team members. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining a high level of professionalism. Sound judgment and decision-making skills based on established procedures. Reliable transportation and a valid driver's license if traveling between multiple sites. Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) and data entry. Have Skills:
Medical assistant or paramedic training and experience preferred. Certification in phlebotomy or a related healthcare field is highly advantageous. Experience working in outpatient, patient service center, or clinical laboratory settings. Knowledge of laboratory processing procedures and specimen handling regulations. Bilingual communication skills a plus.
Preferred Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent required. 1-3 years of hands-on phlebotomy experience, including pediatric and geriatric collections. 2 years in a patient service center environment preferred. Previous customer service experience in a retail or service setting is highly valued.
Other Requirements:
Flexibility to work varying shifts, including weekends, holidays, and on-call hours. Physical ability to perform blood draws, stand for extended periods, and lift supplies as needed. Must follow all health and safety policies, including appropriate PPE use. Willingness to travel between multiple locations with minimal notice. Valid driver's license and clean driving record if transportation is necessary. Certification as a phlebotomist preferred but not required in all states; required in California, Nevada, and Washington.
