Job Description
Phlebotomist Job Description The main function of a phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting issues, training, and making workflow recommendations. This role involves collecting and storing specimens according to established procedures while ensuring a courteous interaction with patients. Responsibilities Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, and record maintenance data. Update patient information and ensure proper decontamination processes are followed. Explain the venipuncture process clearly and courteously to patients. Demonstrate technique using straight and/or butterfly needles. Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes. Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders. Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy. Package specimens for transport and store them according to required temperatures. Place samples in appropriate collection containers and accurately label them. Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations. Attend annual department trainings. Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries. Essential Skills Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite. High School Diploma or
GED. 2-4
years of experience in phlebotomy. Additional Skills & Qualifications Proficiency in specimen collection and venipuncture techniques. Ability to follow specific protocols to maintain specimen integrity. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Waco, TX. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $21.80/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
