Job Title:
Phlebotomist Job Description The primary role of a phlebotomist is to support the healthcare team by performing various duties including troubleshooting, training, and recommending workflow improvements. Responsibilities Conduct blood draws and label specimens accurately. Centrifuge specimens, record maintenance data, and ensure decontamination processes are followed. Update patient information and maintain accurate records. Collect and store specimens in accordance with established procedures. Explain the venipuncture process and other specimen collection methods clearly and courteously. Demonstrate techniques using straight or butterfly needles. Comprehend and execute all physicians' orders accurately. Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes. Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders. Ensure all test requisitions or computer labels are 100% accurate against scripts. Package specimens properly for transport. Store specimen samples according to required temperatures and protocols. Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations. Attend annual department training sessions. Respond to telephone inquiries and relay laboratory results as needed. Essential Skills Phlebotomy Blood draw Venipuncture Experience with geriatrics and pediatrics 2+ years of experience in specimen collection Customer service skills Additional Skills & Qualifications Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment as required. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite. High School Diploma or GED Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience Work Environment The position is based in a Patient Service Center (PSC) and operates in a fast-paced environment. The work schedule is Monday to Friday, 8 AM to 4:30 PM, with every other Saturday from 8 AM to 11 AM. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Fairfax, VA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $25.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
