Job Summary The primary responsibility of the Phlebotomist II is to perform specimen collection and processing while assisting with troubleshooting, training, workflow recommendations, and maintaining compliance with laboratory standards and regulations. Key Responsibilities Perform venipunctures and other specimen collection procedures. Label, process, centrifuge, split, freeze, and package specimens according to established procedures. Record maintenance data and perform decontamination activities. Update and maintain accurate patient information. Clearly and courteously explain blood draw and specimen collection procedures to patients. Demonstrate proficiency using straight needles and butterfly needles. Review and fully understand physician orders and laboratory requisitions. Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes and verify specimen accuracy. Ensure all test requisitions and computer labels are accurate and complete. Store specimens at the appropriate temperature and in the correct collection containers. Follow all specimen handling and transport protocols to maintain specimen integrity. Comply with OSHA, DEP, and all laboratory safety regulations. Attend required annual department training sessions. Answer telephone inquiries and communicate laboratory results as appropriate. Required Qualifications Valid Phlebotomy Certification (where required by state regulations). Minimum of 6 months of experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced laboratory or hospital environment. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. High School Diploma or
GED. 2-4
years of overall relevant experience preferred. Preferred Skills Strong specimen processing and handling experience. Excellent attention to detail and accuracy. Strong communication and patient interaction skills. Ability to work efficiently in a high-volume environment. Knowledge of laboratory safety and compliance requirements.
