Full Job Description Job Description:
We're looking for a caring, experienced Lead Phlebotomist who is passionate about patient care and enjoys supporting a team. In this role, you'll not only provide excellent specimen collection services but also help guide and support fellow phlebotomists in delivering a great experience for every patient. Duties and Responsibilities:
Perform phlebotomy professionally, competently and with compassion for the patient. Maintain a safe and clean environment for all staff members and patients, including without limitation, collecting and disposing of specimens and other contaminated material in accordance with established policies and procedures and with adherence to the appropriate standards of infection control and body fluid precautions and protective equipment when necessary. Ensure that requisitions are completed properly, and the patient demographic, diagnosis, insurance and physician information are included on or attached to the requisitions. Diagnostic information shall be in a narrative or ICD-9 code format and valid only if legible. If a patient is a Medicare patient, you must review the National Coverage Decisions ("NCD") and Local Medical review Policies ("LMRP") for the tests ordered on the requisition form to determine if an Advance Beneficiary Notice ("ABN") must be completed. If the form is needed, correctly complete the form with the patient. Ensure that the Medicare Secondary Form ("MSP") is completed when necessary. Accurately collect all specimens necessary to fulfill the clients' lab orders. Provide accurate communication to clients and their staff regarding the proper ordering of lab tests. Ensure that draw station where you work is kept clean and adequately stocked with supplies every day. On a daily basis, inform your lead of supervisor of your job performance issues, concerns and schedule. If you work for UWL and are located within a physician's office, you are not permitted to do any work for the physician and/or the physician's medical practice, your sole responsibility is to collect specimens to be sent to a UWL client's laboratory.
Additional Responsibilities:
Perform the duties of a courier if called upon. Deliver supplies when necessary. Obtain any additional information if called upon. Contact Medicare patients to fulfill compliance requirements in regard to MSP forms. Any other reasonable task you may be asked to perform by the Operations Supervisor, and which is not included herein.
Knowledge/Skills/Experience Requirements:
Phlebotomy Certificate and license if applicable Ability to proficiently perform phlebotomy on patients of all ages Organization and problem-solving skills Evaluative and interpretive skills Ability to adapt to rapidly changing conditions in work environment Communication skills, both verbal and written Telephone etiquette Interpersonal skills Knowledge of medical terminology
Physical Requirements:
Continuous sitting (up to 6 hrs/day) Continuous walking (up to 6 hrs/day) Intermittent bending, squatting, and climbing Simple grasping with both hands Pushing and pulling with both hands Fine manipulation with both hands, repetitive movement Frequent lifting of 10 lb. or less, occasional lifting of 11 to 35 lb.
