Job Description

Sports Physical Therapist — Fuel Sports Physical Therapy Northbrook, IL | Full-Time | Cash-based, 1-on-1 model
  • This Role Is Built For A Specific Kind Of Physical Therapist.
Not the one who's just tired of their current job. We're looking for someone who has a clear picture of the kind of practice they want to work in and the patients they want to work with. You believe physical therapy is about more than getting someone out of pain. You want to understand why it happened, fix what's actually driving it, and make sure they're stronger on the other side than they were before. Discharging someone at "symptom-free" when there's more work to do doesn't sit right with you. You're drawn to athletes and active adults not because you understand them. Maybe because you are one. You know what it means to have a training goal, a season, something to get back to. That context makes you a better clinician. You take your craft seriously. You're always looking for a better answer, a sharper diagnosis, a more effective approach. You want to work somewhere that pushes that. Not somewhere that just keeps you busy.
  • About Fuel Sports Physical Therapy Fuel is a cash-based, out-of-network sports physical therapy clinic in Northbrook, IL founded with one goal: set a higher standard of care for active adults and athletes.
We work with people who are motivated to resolve their pain and get back to the activities they love. Runners, lifters, CrossFitters, youth athletes, and high-performing individuals who want real solutions, not symptom management. Every session is 60 minutes, one-on-one, with the same PT from start to finish. No handoffs, no aides, no rushing through a packed schedule. We work for the patient, not the insurance companies. Plans of care are built around full recovery and long-term performance. And when patients finish rehab, many stay with us for strength & conditioning, wellness, and longevity because that's the standard of care we hold ourselves to. Fuel has a clear identity, a strong foundation, and we're growing fast. The PT who joins us will have a real role in that growth.
  • What The Model Actually Looks Like
  • 6 to 8 patients per day. You go home with energy left, not running on empty.
  • 60 minutes, one-on-one, same PT every visit. Your patients know you and trust you.
  • Your entire caseload is active adults and athletes who actually want to be there and are invested in their outcome.
  • No insurance. No prior auth. No productivity quotas tied to billing codes.
  • Documentation that serves the clinician, not the insurance company.
  • Full spectrum of care from injury rehab through strength and performance. You see patients all the way through.
  • Training And Development System We invest heavily in the growth of our team. That means structured support from day one, not just a handoff and a caseload.
  • Structured onboarding with a defined ramp-up period and clear performance standards
  • Weekly 1:1 and group clinical development meetings
  • Communication and patient education training so you can confidently walk a patient through their findings, present a plan of care, and answer the hard questions
  • $1,500 annual continuing education budget
  • Mentorship that is part of the job, not an add-on Getting better at your craft shouldn't require fighting for it. Here it's expected.
  • Compensation And Benefits
  • Base Salary by Experience
  • $75,000
  • $100,000 base
  • Performance bonuses tied to outcomes and impact
  • Annual Raises
  • performance based increases Additional Benefits
  • Health insurance stipend
  • PTO•Paid Holidays•5 sick days•Clinical mentorship•Who Should Apply•Doctor of Physical Therapy required, licensed or license-eligible in Illinois•Manual therapy skills and a genuine background in sports or performance•CSCS, OCS, or SCS preferred, not required•You're coachable and genuinely open to feedback.
You see it as part of getting better, not a critique of who you are.
  • You take ownership of your patients' outcomes and don't settle for partial solutions
  • You connect well with patients, build trust quickly, and can walk someone through a plan of care with clarity and confidence
  • You're invested in your patients' outcomes beyond the session. You think about them, follow their progress, and care how the story ends.
  • New grads with additional experience in athletic training, strength & conditioning, or a specialty setting are encouraged This is not the right fit if you're looking for a low-accountability environment or a role where growth isn't expected.
  • How To Apply If the position and our values resonate with you and you want to be part of a growing practice offering something unique to physical therapy and the healthcare system, please send in a resume to larry@fuelsportspt.
