Part-time Job Title:
School-Based Physical Therapist (PT) Position Overview The School-Based Physical Therapist provides evaluation, assessment, and therapeutic intervention services to students with physical disabilities or motor delays within an educational setting. The PT supports students in accessing their educational environment and achieving functional mobility necessary for participation in school activities, in compliance with Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and applicable state regulations. Key Responsibilities Conduct physical therapy evaluations and re-evaluations for students referred for services Develop and implement individualized treatment plans aligned with each student's Individualized Education Program (IEP) Provide direct and consultative physical therapy services in classroom and school settings Collaborate with teachers, special education staff, occupational therapists, speech therapists, and families Support students' functional mobility, positioning, balance, coordination, and gross motor development Recommend and assist with adaptive equipment (e.g., walkers, wheelchairs, seating systems) Train school staff on safe mobility techniques, transfers, and equipment use Maintain accurate documentation, progress notes, and service logs in compliance with school and state guidelines Participate in IEP meetings and multidisciplinary team discussions Ensure compliance with district policies, New Jersey Department of Education (NJDOE), and federal regulationsQualifications Required:
Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) or Master's degree in Physical Therapy Active New Jersey State Board of Physical Therapy Examiners license Experience working with pediatric or school-aged populations Knowledge of special education processes and IEP development Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skillsPreferred:
Prior school-based experience Familiarity with assistive technology and adaptive equipment Experience with students with developmental disabilities, orthopedic impairments, or neurological conditions Work Environment School-based setting (elementary, middle, or high school) May involve travel between multiple school locations within the district Requires physical activity including lifting, positioning, and assisting students with mobility Schedule & Employment Details (Example- Customize as Needed) Full-time or part-time opportunities available Typical school hours (e.g., 8:00 AM
