$1916.00•$1974.00 This Physical Therapy Assistant opportunity is based in Alturas, California, a welcoming small town in the northeastern part of the state known for its scenic beauty, relaxed pace of life, and strong sense of community. Surrounded by the expansive Modoc National Forest and open high-desert landscapes, Alturas offers abundant opportunities for outdoor enthusiasts, including hiking, fishing, camping, bird-watching, and exploring nearby lakes and natural preserves. The area is ideal for those who enjoy wide-open spaces, star-filled night skies, and access to year-round recreation without the congestion of larger cities. You will be working in a rural hospital-based environment that provides both inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation services to Alturas and surrounding communities. This setting is ideal for a Physical Therapy Assistant who wants to practice a broad range of skills, gain exposure to diverse diagnoses, and be an integral part of a tight-knit, interdisciplinary team. The culture emphasizes collaboration, patient-centered care, and a supportive atmosphere where each team member's contribution is highly valued. Typical responsibilities include carrying out treatment plans under the direction of licensed Physical Therapists, focusing on restoring function, reducing pain, improving mobility, and promoting overall wellness. You will work with a varied caseload that may include orthopedic, post-surgical, neurologic, cardiopulmonary, and general medical patients. Services are provided across inpatient acute care, swing bed or skilled levels of care, and a busy outpatient clinic, offering excellent exposure to multiple practice settings in one role. A typical day may involve assisting with morning inpatient rounds to provide mobility training, balance exercises, and functional activities, followed by scheduled outpatient sessions for patients recovering from joint replacements, sports injuries, and chronic musculoskeletal conditions. You will perform therapeutic exercises, gait and stair training, transfer training, and patient and family education, as well as assist with modalities and documentation in the EMR. Patient ratios are designed to allow for quality, individualized treatment and meaningful interaction with each person under your care. The rehabilitation department is organized to promote close mentorship and communication between PTs and PTAs. You will participate in care conferences, collaborate with nurses and physicians on discharge planning and mobility goals, and contribute to safety and fall prevention initiatives. As a PTA in this rural setting, you will have the opportunity to develop strong clinical judgment, enhance your autonomy within your scope, and see the impact of your care throughout the community. Shifts are generally daytime, weekday schedules, with some flexibility based on inpatient needs and outpatient volume. Hours are structured to support work-life balance while still providing consistent access for patients. The environment suits clinicians who appreciate continuity of care and value building lasting relationships with patients who often live and work locally. Working in Alturas offers a lifestyle that balances meaningful, hands-on patient care with the benefits of small-town living. Residents enjoy easy commutes, quiet neighborhoods, local events and festivals, and convenient access to outdoor adventures in every season. For a Physical Therapy Assistant seeking to build a well-rounded skill set, contribute to a community-focused healthcare team, and enjoy the natural beauty and serenity of northeastern California, this position offers a compelling and fulfilling opportunity.
