Job Description

JOB SUMMARY
The Licensed Physical Therapist Assistant (LPTA), under the clinical supervision of a Physical Therapist, performs direct patient care activities using a variety of therapeutic procedures, modalities, and assistive devices designed to restore loss of muscle strength, range of motion, coordination, mobility, and body alignment, to relieve pain and to improve movement and function. The LPTA functions in accordance with their State Practice Act.
PERFORMANCE DIMENSIONS AND TASKS
Essential Function 1. Provide physical therapy treatments to patients according to the Plan of Care developed by the Physical Therapist; 2. Performs treatment as ordered in a safe and timely manner, and in accordance with established protocols and practice guidelines; 3. Meet established productivity levels of 10 - 14 visits per day; 4. Assist the Physical Therapist when performing tests, assessments and complex treatments procedures; 5. Observe, record and report to the Physical Therapist the patient's condition, reaction and responses related to treatment/assignment; 6. Assist the Physical Therapist in communication with physicians, patients, family members, and other hospital departments regarding the patients progress, problems and/or discharge plans, as requested; 7. Maintain equipment in proper working order; 8. Instruct patient, family or caregiver in home programs to be continued upon discharge, as directed by the Physical Therapist; 9. Attend and participate in required department meetings; 10. Participate in the department quality improvement process; 11. Participate in hospital task forces or committees as requested; 12. Act in compliance with all regulatory, corporate and professional standards and practice guidelines; 13. Access continuing education opportunities appropriate to discipline and responsibility; 14. Complete all annual mandatory training and certification requirements; 15. Perform other duties as assigned.
