Position Details Classification Information Position Classification Title FLSA Exempt Position Class (Extract From Banner or PA) 80090 EPA Position Type JCAT Position Overview Primary Purpose of the Position Faculty in the Department of Physical Therapy in the School of Health Sciences at Winston-Salem State University invite applications for a 12-month, visiting Assistant or Associate Professor of Physical Therapy faculty position beginning August 1, 2026. The ideal person will have Generalist skills in physical therapy and be able to teach content in one or more of the following areas: Pediatrics, Lifespan, Pharmacology, Physiology, and assist in laboratory courses. The person may also have an opportunity to assist in clinical education. We seek an exceptional candidate whose primary role will be to teach graduate courses, serve as a faculty mentor in pro-bono clinics, serve as a faculty advisor, and mentor students. The person may have an opportunity to produce scholarly research that results in publications in peer-reviewed journals within the discipline, present at professional conferences, engage in procuring extramural funds with interdisciplinary teams, participate in departmental, school, and university service, and engage in service to the professional discipline and the larger Winston-Salem and Forsyth County, NC community. No Appointment Length. 12 Months Position Number 000252 Requirements and Preferences Position required to work during periods of adverse weather or other emergencies No Normal Work Schedule Monday - Friday 8 am - 5 pm Department Required Skills We seek candidates who demonstrate excellence in teaching, use generalist skills in physical therapy, and have current expertise in one or more of the following areas: assisting in laboratory courses, Pediatrics, Lifespan, Pharmacology, and/or Physiology. The person may also have an opportunity to assist in clinical education. The ideal candidate must demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching physical therapy and an ability to leverage various technologies to engage students in the learning process. We desire candidates who demonstrate experience mentoring graduate students in research experiences or engaging students in study abroad or community service learning, where they must leverage their content knowledge to benefit the larger community. We seek candidates who demonstrate the ability to participate in interdisciplinary teaching and research collaborations with professional colleagues at the university, across universities, or within the broader public. Candidates must also demonstrate a commitment to their professional growth and development through engagement with professional organizations and conferences. Applicants must hold a degree in physical therapy and be licensed or eligible to practice in North Carolina. The selected candidate must obtain a license to practice physical therapy in the State of North Carolina by August 1, 2026. Additionally, candidates who do not hold a Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree must have an academic doctoral degree (PhD) or another academic terminal degree (e.g., Ed.
D., D.Sc., DHSc) in physical therapy or a related field. Candidates with "ABD" status will be considered. If the person selected for employment has "ABD" status, they must earn the doctorate by August 1, 2026. Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education Faculty in the Department of Physical Therapy prefer candidates who: Have at least two years of experience teaching physical therapy in a physical therapist education program; Are Board Certified Specialists (ABPTS) Have previous experience in teaching online or have experience in using Canvas or a similar Learning Management System; Have five years of clinical experience in the practice in physical th Required License or Certification A North Carolina Physical Therapy license or eligibility for NC Licensure. Perform community-based engagement in our pro bono clinics with physical therapist students in orthopedic or neurologic physical therapist practice Communicate regularly with students, monitor student learning progress, and provide feedback on student success outcomes. Construct detailed course syllabi, facilitate high-quality, engaging instruction to students who learn in many ways, assess student work by providing timely feedback, and evaluate student performance. Hold regular office hours each week, attend consistently departmental and school meetings, and participate in ongoing departmental, school, university, and community/professional service. Provide support that promotes continued accreditation of the department.
