The Licensed Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) provides physical therapy services under the direction and supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist. The PTA administers treatments and physical agents in accordance with treatment plans developed by the Physical Therapist and in compliance with the Virginia Board of Physical Therapy regulations. The PTA is responsible for assisting patients in restoring function, improving mobility, relieving pain, and preventing or limiting permanent physical disabilities.Essential Responsibilities:
Administer physical therapy treatments as instructed by the supervising Physical Therapist. Assist patients in exercises and functional activities to improve strength, range of motion, and mobility. Monitor and report patient progress and responses to treatment to the Physical Therapist. Maintain appropriate and timely documentation of patient care, including daily notes and billing records. Educate patients and families on exercises, mobility techniques, and safe practices as directed. Foster a compassionate and respectful environment for patients and their families. Collaborate with Physical Therapists and other interdisciplinary team members to support overall patient care goals. Ensure compliance with all hospital policies and procedures, as well as state and federal regulations. Maintain clean and orderly treatment areas and equipment. Participate in department meetings, in-service training, and ongoing professional development. Support student instruction and orientation of new team members as assigned. Flexibly adjust to changes in patient volume and departmental needs, which may include schedule modifications or assisting in other areas of the hospital. Perform other duties as assigned.Qualifications:
Graduate of an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant program. Current license to practice as a PTA in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Current BLS certification. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.Other Skills & Knowledge:
Basic computer literacy and ability to document in electronic medical records. Familiarity with HIPAA regulations and ability to maintain strict patient confidentiality.Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand and walk for extended periods. Frequent lifting, pushing, or pulling of up to 50 pounds; occasional lifting over 100 pounds with assistance. Frequent bending, kneeling, and reaching. Regular use of hands for fine motor tasks and gross grasping. Adequate vision, hearing, and speech to perform duties and communicate effectively.Work Environment:
Primary work occurs in a clinical or hospital setting. May be exposed to infectious diseases, bodily fluids, and cleaning agents.
