Cardiothoracic Surgery Physician Assistant (PA) / Nurse Practitioner (NP)

Start Date:
ASAP (6-8 weeks for credentialing) Position Overview We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Physician Assistant (PA) or Nurse Practitioner (NP) to join a fast-paced cardiothoracic surgery team. This role is ideal for a driven clinician with strong operating room experience who thrives in a high-acuity, team-oriented environment. Key Responsibilities Perform vein, arterial, and radial artery harvesting for cardiothoracic surgeons Assist in 1-2 open-heart surgeries per day (20-30 cases per month) Provide post-operative patient care, including hospital rounding and ICU management Conduct pre-operative evaluations in the clinic Coordinate patient discharges and review diagnostic testing (e.g., stress tests) Collaborate closely with surgeons, nurses, and clinical staff across hospital and clinic settings Required Qualifications PA or NP (NP must be an RNFA
  • Registered Nurse First Assist) Minimum 2 years of current, hands-on operating room experience in: Cardiothoracic surgery Vascular or open-heart procedures Demonstrated expertise in: Vein harvesting Arterial and radial artery harvesting Active DEA license (required for prescribing at discharge) Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, high-volume surgical environment Strong work ethic with a "go-getter" mentality and high level of initiative Schedule & Call Monday•Friday, typical hours: 8:00 AM•5:30 PM Early start (~6:00 AM) on surgery days Call rotation: Every other week (including weekends) Must be able to arrive within 30 minutes when on call No scheduled overnight cases; call coverage is for emergent needs Work Environment Split between main hospital and nearby clinic (approximately 1 mile away; shuttle available) Collaborative, experienced surgical team with dedicated OR staff No direct reports or supervisory responsibilities Compensation & Benefits Competitive salary: $185K•$220K DOE Time-off flexibility to offset on-call demands Supportive team environment with structured surgical workflow Opportunity to work in a highly specialized and active heart surgery program • We will consider for employment all qualified Applicants, including those with criminal histories, in a manner consistent with the requirements of applicable federal, state, and local laws, including the City of Los Angeles' Fair Chance Initiative for Hiring Ordinance (FCIHO), Los Angeles Fair Chance Ordinance for Employers (ULAC), The San Francisco Fair Chance Ordinance (FCO), and the California Fair Chance Act (CFCA).
