We are recruiting for a mission-driven Neurocritical Care APP Nocturnist (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) to join our team! We're with you for life's journey. Our Values Respect | Belonging | Accountability | Transparency Department Neurointensivists Job Summary Denver Health Medical Center is recruiting for a nights Neurocritical Care APP. The Neurocritical Care APP (Advanced Practice Provider), under established guidelines and in collaboration and/or supervision with practice physician(s), will perform routine physical and neurologic examinations, admit patients to the neurocritical care unit and perform core ICU procedures including central and arterial line placement, lumbar punctures, flexible bronchoscopy, and intubation. The
NCCU APP
will formulate medical and psychosocial plans to treat patients and may have opportunities participate in bedside neurosurgical procedures including EVD, SEPS and intracranial pressure monitor (bolt) placement. The APP will operate under high autonomy, provide independent billing at night, and collaborate closely with
NCCU/SICU
nurses and techs, Neurosurgery APPs, and Surgical and Medical Intensive Care providers. NCCU beds are located within the SICU plant, with overnight coverage for SICU primary patients is provided by surgery or emergency medicine residents. The
NCCU APP
will also be expected to provide cross-coverage on surgical and trauma patients in SICU when needed, as determined by overall census.
Essential Functions :
Patient Evaluation:
Conduct patient evaluations, obtain medical histories and perform physical exams. Complete required chart documentation. (45%) Perform procedures including but not limited EVDs and bolt removal. Perform core ICU procedures including central and arterial line placement, lumbar punctures, flexible bronchoscopy, and intubation (35%) Teaches medical students, physician assistants, nurse practitioners and nursing students who are in a neurosurgery rotation. (20%)
Education :
Master's Degree for physician assistant and successful completion of certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
Required Work Experience :
1-3 years Related clinical experience preferred
Licenses :
PA-Physician Assistant
  • State Medical Board Required and PAC-Certified Physician Assistant
  • NCCPA
  • National Commission for Certifying Agencies Required and BLS-Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR)
  • AHA•
American Heart Association or American Red Cross Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :
Knowledge of medical principles and procedures. Skill in performing physical exams, formulation assessments of and treatment plans for patients. Ordering appropriate diagnostic studies to aid in diagnosis. Knowledge of appropriate administration and prescription of medications. Ability to exercise initiative and judgment in selecting proper treatment. Ability to respond appropriately in emergency situations. Ability to competently perform Neurology specific procedures. Ability to enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs and continuing education. Accountability for role in department's productivity, efficiency and financial viability. Computer skills required. Computer skills preferred. Shift Work Type Regular Salary $128,100.00
