The Connecticut Orthopaedic Institute's Physician Assistant team is a growing department that covers inpatient joint reconstruction, spine, podiatry and acute fracture care. Physician Assistant (PA) Description First and/or Second Assist in the Operating Room. Provides pre-operative and post-operative care to patients. Documents patient encounters, including but not limited to: admissions, brief operative, progress, event, procedure and discharge notes. Enters, reviews and updates orders. Collaborates as part of a multidisciplinary team to facilitate safe and appropriate patient disposition.

Nurse Practitioner and Physician Assistants Role Scope:
Under established guidelines and in collaboration and/or supervision with the practice physician(s), Advanced Practitioners perform routine physical examinations, and formulate medical, educational, and psychosocial plans to treat patients. In consultation with the physician(s) and care team members, Advanced Practitioners develop plans for further evaluation of health needs, e.g., referral to other health team members or specialists. Advanced Practitioners provide appropriate treatment for problems within the scope of the provider's practice as designated by protocols and identifies problems outside of their scope of practice and refers appropriately to physician.

Qualifications Requirements:
  • Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program
  • Certified as a Physician Assistant
  • Current or eligible CT license
  • Minimum of two years or orthopedic or surgical experience required
