Perform comprehensive patient assessments, including medical histories and physical examinations. Diagnose and treat orthopedic conditions such as fractures, joint disorders, sports injuries, and degenerative diseases. Order, interpret, and review diagnostic tests including X-rays, MRIs, and lab work. Develop and implement treatment plans, including prescribing medications and therapies. Assist with in-office and surgical procedures, including pre-operative and post-operative care. Occasionally round on patients in the hospital. Provide patient education regarding diagnoses, treatment plans, rehabilitation, and preventive care. Perform in-office procedures such as injections, splinting, casting, and wound care. Document patient encounters accurately and timely in the electronic medical record (EMR). Collaborate with physicians and care teams to ensure continuity of care. Ensure compliance with all regulatory, safety, and confidentiality standards. Make appropriate patient referrals to practice physicians and other health care providers. Lends assistance and provides solutions to scheduling personnel for patient triage problems as requested. Performs other clinical duties as directed by supervising physician(s). Participates in clinical meetings held by practice physician(s). Performs call and hospital responsibilities as scheduled and/or requested by physician(s). Coordinates with Clinic Manager regarding operational issues such as patient scheduling, medical assistance provided by certified medical assistants and nurses, and other patient-flow matters. Complete the providers section of managed care referral forms for referral to specialty care and/or diagnostic testing as required by each individual patient's health insurance plan. Complete the clinical portion of third-party payer inquiries and disabilities form as required/requested by billing personnel and/or the practice administrator or practice physicians. Complete patient sick certificates and other associated patient care forms.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Strong clinical knowledge of musculoskeletal anatomy and orthopedic conditions Excellent diagnostic and clinical decision-making skills Ability to assist in surgery and perform minor procedures Strong interpersonal and communication skills with patients and team members Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced clinical environment Attention to detail and strong organizational skills
Education:
Master's degree from an accredited Physician Assistant program. Current certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA). Active state licensure as a Physician Assistant. DEA registration (or eligibility). Basic Life Support (BLS) certification; Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred. Prior orthopedic experience preferred, but not required. Expected Hours of Work Full-time, typically Monday-Friday with occasional call or weekend responsibilities depending on clinic needs Work Environment Combination of clinic and surgical settings Physical Demands The physical demands described herein are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time. Push/pull/pick up 50-100 pounds with assistance. Visual acuity, hand-finger dexterity, ability to communicate effectively. Prolonged standing during procedures and surgeries
