Job Overview We are seeking a dedicated and highly skilled Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner to join Indiana Spine Group assisting our spine surgeon, Dr. Thomas Reilly, with surgeries on a full-time basis in Kokomo, Indiana. This position assists with surgeries three (3) days per week and will be in clinic the other days. This position requires travel to Carmel, Indiana.
Prerequisite Experience :
Graduation from accredited Physician's Assistant program or Nurse Practitioner's program. Board Certified. Current Indiana PA or NP License. Minimum of two years experience as a Physician's Assistant or Nurse Practitioner preferred.
Essential Functions:
The following list describes the essential duties of this role. Individuals in this role may not perform all of these duties, or may perform additional, related duties not listed here. Assists physician with the patient procedures. Assesses patient health status including state of wellness, compliance with care plan and determines appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. Provides acute and chronic patient care including taking histories, doing physicals, monitoring therapies, giving medication and suturing wounds. Observes, records and reports patient's condition and reaction to drugs and treatment to physician. Dispenses medication as prescribed and approved by supervising physician. Triages patient calls and evaluates patient problems. Respond to emergencies including CPR. Documents patient information and care provided clearly and concisely in patient record and maintains statistics. Use computer to access/enter needed data. Helps surgical team to maintain patient safety through monitoring sterile technique during draping and surgical procedures. Case preparation and set up, performing scrub duties throughout the procedure and case turnover. Performs case preparation duties in a timely manner including obtaining supplies, equipment and instrumentation, placing instruments and equipment in appropriate place for case set up, and opening bundles and place supplies appropriately on the sterile field without break in technique. Maintains accountability for needles, sponges and instruments. Performs case set up duties in a timely manner including scrub, gown, and glove according to policy, checks all indicators to assure sterility, verifies that all items from surgeon's preference sheet are present, drapes furniture and equipment, organizes instruments and linens on mayo, case cart and back table, prepares sutures and performs initial count per policy and procedure. Performs duties throughout the surgical procedure including gowns and gloves surgical team members, participates in draping and prepping, passes instruments and supplies, maintains clean and orderly sterile field, open and close patient, anticipates surgeon's needs and communicates need for additional supplies, assists with updating of surgeon preference cards by notifying circulator of changes, retrieves discarded needles, initiates closing counts and communicates count results to appropriate members of surgical team, prepares dressing(s) and maintains sterility until the patient is moved from the operating room table. Participates in case turnover, handles all specimens appropriately, prepares instruments for decontamination, assists with cleaning of the operating room and equipment and assists with storage of equipment. Educates patients and families as appropriate. Provides continuity of care. Consults with other staff as necessary. Communicates effectively with colleagues, patients, physicians and administration by demonstrating positive and effective verbal communication with patients, families and co-workers. Demonstrates efficient management of time and resources. Adheres to practice standards and PA/NP code of ethics. Provides leadership by serving as a role model and resource. Attends and participates in required meetings. Performs all duties respectful of confidentiality and safety of all patients, employees and physicians.
