Job Description

Position Summary The Physician Assistant/NP provides comprehensive care to patients with musculoskeletal conditions under the supervision of an orthopedic surgeon. This includes performing assessments, diagnosing injuries, assisting in surgical and non-surgical procedures, managing post-operative care, and providing patient education and follow-up.
Key Responsibilities Clinical Care:
Conduct comprehensive orthopedic evaluations, including patient histories and physical examinations. Order, interpret, and review diagnostic imaging and laboratory tests. Develop and implement treatment plans for acute and chronic orthopedic conditions. Perform joint injections, aspirations, casting, splinting, and wound care. Provide pre- and post-operative patient management and education. Monitor patient progress and modify treatment plans as needed.
Surgical Assistance:
Assist orthopedic surgeons in the operating room (e.g., positioning, suturing, tissue handling). Prepare surgical instruments, implants, and equipment. Perform first assist duties during orthopedic procedures.
Administrative and Coordination Duties:
Document patient encounters accurately in the electronic medical record (EMR). Coordinate patient care with physicians, nurses, therapists, and other healthcare professionals. Participate in rounds, case conferences, and quality improvement initiatives. Contribute to clinical research and continuing education activities, as appropriate.
Qualifications Education:
Master's degree from an accredited Physician Assistant program.
Licensure:
Current state PA license; NCCPA certification required.
Experience:
Minimum [1-3] years of orthopedic or surgical experience preferred. New graduates with orthopedic rotations will be considered.
Certifications:
BLS and ACLS required; ATLS preferred.
Skills:
Strong knowledge of musculoskeletal anatomy and orthopedic procedures. Excellent clinical judgment and diagnostic skills. Ability to perform in fast-paced surgical and clinical environments. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Proficient in EMR systems and medical documentation. Work Environment Hospital inpatient units, outpatient clinics, and operating rooms. May require on-call duties, evening, weekend, or holiday shifts depending on practice needs. Physical requirements include standing for extended periods and assisting with patient positioning or transfers. Compensation and Benefits Competitive salary based on experience.
