Job Description

Physician Assistant - Hand Surgery (Orthopedic & Neuroscience Center) Lexington, KY | Full-Time | Exempt (30-40 hrs/week) Position Summary We are seeking a highly motivated Physician Assistant with a focus or strong interest in Hand Surgery to join our Orthopedic & Neuroscience team. This role works directly with a fellowship-trained hand surgeon, providing first assist in the operating room and delivering specialized care to patients with hand, wrist, and upper extremity conditions. The PA will play a critical role across the full continuum of care-from clinic evaluation and diagnosis to surgical assistance and post-operative recovery-while helping ensure excellent patient outcomes and an outstanding patient experience. Key Responsibilities Serve as first assist in hand and upper extremity surgical procedures Perform pre-operative evaluations, including history, physical exams, and surgical planning support Provide post-operative care, including wound care, splinting/casting, and follow-up management Evaluate and manage clinic patients with hand, wrist, and upper extremity conditions Perform in-office procedures such as: Joint and tendon injections Suture removal Splinting and casting Collaborate closely with surgeons, therapists, and clinical staff to coordinate care Educate patients on treatment plans, recovery expectations, and rehabilitation Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the EMR Preferred Qualifications Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program NCCPA certification required Eligible for or current licensure in Kentucky Experience in orthopedic surgery, hand surgery, or upper extremity care strongly preferred Familiarity with: Fracture care Tendon and nerve injuries Carpal tunnel and other common hand conditions Strong procedural skills and comfort in both OR and clinic settings Excellent communication and team collaboration skills Physical Requirements Ability to sit or stand for extended periods during surgical procedures Manual dexterity for assisting in surgery Ability to move, position, and assist patients safely Capability to work in a fast-paced surgical and clinical environment Why Join Us Work directly with specialized hand surgeons High-impact role with a mix of surgery and clinic autonomy Collaborative, team-oriented environment Opportunity to develop advanced skills in a high-demand subspecialty Note This job description outlines the general responsibilities and expectations for this role and is not an exhaustive list of all duties.
