The Medical Group offers a comprehensive array of services, including primary and specialty care, behavioral and mental health services, and urgent care. Care is delivered both digitally and at physical locations across Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Maine. In addition, the group provides outpatient surgery and endoscopy, imaging, cardiac testing, and infusion services. There is a strong commitment to ensuring patients receive coordinated and comprehensive experience at all locations, guaranteeing that each patient has access to the appropriate level of care throughout the system's delivery sites. We are seeking a 40-hour, day shift Physician Assistant to support our Inpatient Orthopedics team. We are located on the NWH Main Campus at 2014 Washington Street, Newton, 02462. In this role, Physician Assistants provide coverage in the Emergency Department, on the inpatient floor, perform inpatient surgical consults, and potentially evening OR coverage. Providers practice autonomously at the top of their licensure and are responsible for:- Presenting and discussing patient evaluations with Attending Surgeons to develop appropriate treatment plans
- Ordering diagnostic tests and interpreting results
- Performing diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, including but not limited to: o Wound care o Tube and drain insertion, care, and removal o Suturing and suture removal o Splint, brace, and cast application and removal o Medication administration (including IV push medications and steroid/anesthetic injections) o Central venous line removal o Electrocardiograms
- Conducting daily patient rounds
- Participating in discharge planning and completing discharge summaries.
- Educating and counseling patients and families
- Orienting medical students, physician assistant students, and surgical residents to the clinical environment, patient care practices, and hospital policies
- Participating in quality improvement and quality assurance initiatives Are you ready to bring your expertise to a collaborative, high-performing team?
- Provides direct care, counseling, and teaching to a designated patient population in the ambulatory, inpatient, operative, and/or procedural setting.
- Performs complete histories and physical examinations.
- Orders, interprets, and evaluates appropriate laboratory and diagnostic tests.
- Develops appropriate plans of care and follow-up based on the outcomes of diagnostic, laboratory, and physical examination findings.
- Orders medications and writes prescriptions according to organizational and regulatory policies and procedures.
- Consistently provides high quality and timely documentation including admission and progress notes, procedure notes, operative notes and discharge summaries.
