Inpatient Per Diem Req Id:
65183 Per Diem | Bergen County, NJ | 10 minutes from NYC The Cardiothoracic Surgery team at Englewood Health is seeking a Per Diem Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) or Physician Assistant (PA) to provide high-quality inpatient care for post-operative cardiothoracic surgery patients. This role supports a high-acuity service that includes cardiac surgery, thoracic surgery, and mechanical circulatory support. The ideal candidate is clinically strong, adaptable, and comfortable functioning as an integral member of a fast-paced surgical team. Our program has received significant recognition, including a Newsweek "America's Best Cardiac Hospitals" designation and a 3-star rating from the Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS). About the Opportunity Ability to work per diem shifts, including weekends and holidays as needed.
Shift:
13.5 hours - (Days) 6:30am-8:00pm | (Nights) 6:30pm-8:00am. What your day will look like Conduct comprehensive inpatient evaluations, including histories, physical exams, and daily progress assessments. Manage post-operative cardiothoracic patients, including chest tube management, ventilator weaning in collaboration with critical care, wound care, and hemodynamic monitoring. Perform procedures within scope of practice (e.g., arterial lines, central lines, chest tube removal, pacing wire removal, wound vac management). Collaborate closely with surgeons, intensivists, nursing staff, and ancillary teams to coordinate and optimize patient care. Participate in daily multidisciplinary rounds and contribute to care planning and discharge readiness. Order and interpret diagnostic tests, labs, imaging, and consults. Initiate and adjust medications under established protocols. Document all patient encounters, interventions, and care plans in the electronic medical record in a timely and accurate manner. Provide patient and family education regarding post-operative expectations, recovery, and follow-up care. Support quality improvement initiatives and adherence to evidence-based clinical pathways. Provide flexible per diem coverage, including weekends and holidays as needed. Participate in quality improvement initiatives and contribute to best-practice development Qualifications All Candidates Minimum 1-2 years of inpatient experience, preferably in cardiothoracic surgery, cardiac ICU, surgical ICU, or related acute care specialty (cardiothoracic experience preferred but not required) Strong clinical judgment, and diagnostick skills DEA and NJ CDS registration Current BLS and ACLS certification Advanced Practice Nurse Master's degree required Current NJ Professional Nurse License Current NJ Nurse Practitioner License Physician Assistant Bachelor's degree required Graduate of an anccredited Physician Assistant program Current NJ Physician Assistant License Current NCCPA Certification Why Join Us Top-ranked #2 Hospital in New Jersey #1 in Bergen County for Quality, Safety & Patient Experience Just 10 minutes from New York City Access to world-class dining, culture, entertainment and recreation Englewood Health offers competitive total compensation that includes base pay, comprehensive benefits package, and other incentive programs for our employees. Pay Range:
$55.00 - $75.00 per hour
