Job Description The Inpatient Physician Assistant functions as an independent healthcare provider who, working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary health team, is responsible for providing comprehensive care to both well and ill patients in an inpatient setting. He/she demonstrates a high degree of clinical expertise in working with patients with acute and chronic illnesses commonly encountered in an inpatient setting. Post operative cardiac and thoracic surgery patients will include - ECMO, IABP, Impella and preoperative surgical evaluations Managing patients in Cardiac Critical Care and Cardiothoracic ICU environments, including post-open-heart surgery and cardiac step-down care Performing and managing advanced procedures, including: Central and arterial line insertions Chest tube and pigtail placement and management Emergency sternotomy (reopening the sternum in critical post-operative events) Managing ventilators, hemodynamics, and post-operative recovery for cardiac surgery patients Collaborating with cardiac surgeons, intensivists, and multidisciplinary teams Handling admissions, post-operative rounding, and ongoing patient management The ideal candidate will have experience in cardiology, cardiothoracic surgery, or ICU. Candidates should be available for nights, weekends, holidays. Education And Experience Graduate of accredited program with Current NYS Physician Assistant Licensure and Active Board Certification Active DEA license or ability to apply for such license prior to or upon hire CPR certification and advanced life support certifications if relevant to practice area (ACLS, PALS, NRP) required.
