Required Experience:
Must have and maintain a valid Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) registration and professional liability insurance in accordance with his/her employment agreement. Become and remain a provider in good standing in the Medicare and Medicaid programs. American Heart Association Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Basic Life Support (BLS), and Advance Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification required. Maintain registration in good standing as a Registered Physician Assistant (RPA) in accordance with New York State Laws. Apply, be awarded, and maintain in good standing, membership on the medical staff of each Facility with appropriate privileges at each Facility. Prior experience in plastic surgery, reconstructive surgery, dermatologic surgery, general surgery, or other surgical specialty preferred. Experience with wound care, postoperative care, and office-base procedures preferred. Ability to work in a fast-paced surgical practice environment and travel between office locations, ambulatory surgery centers, and affiliated hospitals as required.Key Responsibilities:
Maintain open communication with the supervising physician regarding patient status, medical history, and treatment plans during consultations, office visits, perioperative care, and postoperative follow-up. Perform patient evaluations, including obtaining medical histories, performing physical examinations, and documenting findings in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) in a timely and accurate manner. Conduct preoperative and postoperative visits, including preoperative histories and physicals, patient education, perioperative medication management, and postoperative follow-up care in the office and/or ambulatory surgery center and/or hospital, as directed by the supervising physician. Coordinate preoperative preparation in the office and/or ambulatory surgery center and/or hospital, including completion of surgical scheduling documentation, obtaining and reviewing informed consent, coordinating preoperative testing, assisting with insurance authorization requirements, and ensuring all preoperative requirements and documentation are complete prior to surgery. Perform clinical procedures within scope of practice, including wound care, dressing changes, suture removal, drain removal, scar management, injections, and minor procedures. Assist the supervising physician in the operating room and/or ambulatory surgery center, including functioning as First Assist during surgical procedures. Assist with hospital rounds, inpatient consults, and postoperative hospital management, as directed by the supervising physician. Provide patient education regarding surgical procedures, treatment plans, medications, risks, and postoperative care. Collaborate with physicians, nursing staff, surgical schedulers, and administrative staff to coordinate patient care and ensure continuity of care across office, ambulatory surgery center, and/or hospital settings. Maintain clinical knowledge and skills related to plastic and reconstructive surgery and stay current on new procedures, techniques, and technology. Maintain accurate, complete, and timely medical documentation and comply with all practice policies and procedures, and all applicable rules, regulations, and standards of affiliated hospitals and surgical facilities. Participate in on-call coverage and patient care follow-up as required by supervising physician and practice needs.Scope of Practice:
The Physician Assistant shall provide only those medical services that are: Within the scope of their education, training, and experience as a Registered Physician Assistant (RPA); Delegated by and performed under the supervision of a designated Supervising Physician; Performed in accordance with the laws, rules, and regulations of the State of New York, accepted professional standards of practice, and the policies and procedures of Long Island Plastic Surgical Group, P.C. and affiliated facilities.Work Environment:
Position may require travel between office locations, ambulatory surgery centers, and affiliated hospitals. Work may be performed in clinical office settings, operating rooms, and/or hospital environments.Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand for extended periods during surgical procedures. Ability to assist in surgical procedures requiring manual dexterity. Ability to lift, position, and transfer patients as necessary. Ability to travel between office locations and affiliated facilities. Ability to work in a fast-paced clinical and surgical environment.Schedule:
Work schedule may include office hours, operating room time, hospital rounding, and on-call responsibilities as assigned by the supervising physician and practice.Education Requirement:
Master's Degree from an Accredited Physician Assistant Program Active New York State Physician Assistant License Current Certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) American Heart Association- Basic Life Support (BLS) American Heart Association
