Job Description

The Neonatologist will serve within our community NICU system located in eastern New York, part of our care alliance partnership with Nuvance Health, on a busy Level 3b NICU unit as well as couplet care for normal, healthy newborns. The hospital has a Neonatal Transport system and also covers NNPs that are at a nearby Level 1B. The Neonatologist will provide hospital service collaboratively with a team of attending and advanced practitioner staff and subspecialty support. This service will provide high quality and safe management, diagnose and treat of a variety of neonatal illnesses and conditions covering a broad spectrum of health issues. EDUCATION and/or
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
M.D., or D.O. degree required. Active Scholarly Program with publication history is desirable but not required. Academic title at the University of Connecticut will be commensurate with academic credentials. Position Specific Job Education and/or Experience Successful completion of residency and fellowship program as applicable LICENSE and/or
CERTIFICATION REQUIRED
New York Physician license Active DEA Board eligible or certified in Pediatrics and/or Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine as appropriate.
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provide assessment of patients by obtaining a comprehensive history.
  • Examines patients to obtain objective physical data and supporting information through laboratory and imaging modalities.
  • Formulate a differential diagnosis and develops a reasonable treatment plan to include pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic interventions and making appropriate referrals as indicated.
  • Maintain ongoing documentation of patient interventions within the timeframe established by policy, to include documentation of initial assessment, treatment plans, progress notes and any other patient interactions, to include telephone calls.
  • Collaborate with nursing, support personnel and administration in matters affecting patient care.
  • Ensure the protection of patient rights and adherence to HIPAA regulations.
  • Ensures appropriate handoff communications are accomplished.
  • Responsible for teaching medical students and family practice residents.
  • Initiate and/or participate in specific research or other scholarly activities.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Supervision of the care provided by advanced practitioners and trainees/students
