Job Description

The Clinical Assistant, MOHS Dermatology is a vital part of the MOHS Dermatology department and collaborates closely with the MOHS nurse and surgeons. Job responsibilities include but are not limited to pre and post-surgical phone calls, setting up for procedures, making post-operative appointments, assisting with procedures, scheduling patients for procedures, stocking rooms, and opening and closing the MOHS unit. This position consistently demonstrates and promotes the values of the organization while working closely with physicians, nurses, and residents under the supervision of the practice manager.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Prior to patient arrival, ensures all operatories are properly set-up for the procedure. This includes setting up sterile/clean mayo stand with sharps, instruments, medications and solutions needed for procedures. Upon arrival to the MOHs suite, reviews and updates medical history with the patient. Scrubs, gowns, and gloves self and members of the MOHS team prior to procedures. Demonstrates ability to anticipate and focus on the needs of both the procedural team and the patient. Responsible for attending to the patient during their procedure. Maintains highest standard of sterile/clean technique during procedures including handling sharps and medications following safety protocols, demonstrating universal precautions and infection control according to guidelines, and handling specimens appropriately and safely. Ensures all rooms and the unit are adequately stocked, cleaned, and disinfected after each patient and procedure. This includes discarding of all disposables, discarding regulated waste properly in accordance with state and local procedures, and spraying and/or soaking all instruments prior to sterilization. Demonstrates successful communication skills with providers, patients, and team members while maintaining confidentiality. Assists RN and provider with duties associated with MOHS schedules, pre and post phone calls, and various communications within and outside of the network. Actively participates in maintaining and/or improving quality improvement initiatives for MOHS. Performs other related duties as assigned to support department and organizational priorities.
PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS
Requires sitting, standing and walking for extended periods of time (up to 8 hours at time). Requires continual use of fingers for patient care, writing and computer entry. Routinely uses upper extremities; occasional requirement to lift up to 25 pounds. Occasionally push cart with supplies up to 30 pounds. Occasionally push wheelchair with patient weighing up to 325 pounds. Regularly requires ability to stoop, bend and reach above shoulder level. Requires ability to hear normal conversation and good general, near and peripheral vision.
EDUCATION
High School diploma or equivalent required.
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
One year of clinical experience OR graduate of Medical Assistant program required. Two years of experience in similar healthcare setting is preferred. Customer service experience is strongly preferred.
BLS/CPR:
Current or within 60 days of hire; through the American Red Cross or American Heart Association. Where applicable, a 30/60/90 day on-boarding checklist will be completed during the on-boarding process for new or transferred employees to confirm mastery of skills relevant to the service line.
