Job Description
Physician Assistant w OR First Assist - Cardiothoracic Surgery Summary Assists Surgeon(s) in OR with cardiac and thoracic surgeries (under the supervision of a physician). Inpatient Rounding and Outpatient Clinic Orders, performs and interprets diagnostic procedures. Provides and documents direct treatment and management of health conditions. Provides counseling and education of patients and their families/caregivers concerning preventative health, treatment options and community resources. Required Credential(s): Physician Assistant with Prescriptive Authority credentialed from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date. Verified by local Credentialing Office. Physician Assistant with Prescriptive Authority credentialed from the Michigan Board Physician Assistants Task Force obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date. Verified by local Credentialing Office. Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support by
American Heart Association or American Red Cross Education:
Graduate of accredited Physician Assistant program. Master's degree preferred. Additional Information Responsible for daily rounding on all in-house patients, as well as outpatient clinic coverage Provides surgical first-assist support, including endoscopic vein and radial artery harvesting Performs bedside procedures, including: Chest tube placement Thoracentesis Radial arterial line placement Central line placement Intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP) removal
