Job Description
An Orthopedic Physician Assistant (PA) works collaboratively with orthopedic surgeons to provide high‑quality patient care in both clinic and surgical settings. The PA evaluates patients, assists in diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal conditions, and participates in operative procedures, ensuring efficient, patient‑centered orthopedic care. Key Responsibilities Clinical Care Perform comprehensive patient evaluations, including history taking, physical exams, and ordering/interpreting diagnostic tests. Develop and implement treatment plans for orthopedic conditions such as fractures, joint disorders, sports injuries, and degenerative diseases. Provide post‑operative and follow‑up care, including wound management, suture/staple removal, and rehabilitation coordination. Surgical Assistance First or second assist in orthopedic surgical procedures as credentialed. Perform minor procedures such as joint injections, aspirations, casting, and splinting. Participate in pre‑operative preparation and post‑operative patient management. Patient Education & Communication Educate patients and families on diagnoses, treatment options, procedures, and recovery plans. Document all patient encounters accurately and timely in the electronic medical record (EMR). Clinical Collaboration Work closely with orthopedic surgeons, X‑ray technologists, medical assistants, and other healthcare professionals. Coordinate care with physical therapy, imaging, and ancillary services. Compliance & Quality Adhere to all federal, state, and local regulations and clinical best practices. Maintain compliance with HIPAA, safety protocols, and orthopedic care standards. Qualifications Education & Certification Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program. Current NCCPA certification. Active Texas Physician Assistant license (or eligibility). Experience Orthopedic experience strongly preferred (new graduates with orthopedic rotations will be considered). Surgical assisting experience is a plus. Skills Strong clinical assessment and procedural skills. Proficiency with EMR systems. Excellent communication, teamwork, and patient‑care skills. Job Environment Orthopedic clinic and surgical settings. Fast‑paced environment requiring adaptability, time management and strong organizational skills. Physical Demands Standing, walking, bending, and assisting with patient positioning. Ability to assist with clinical interventions and surgical procedures as needed. Schedule Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM Occasional early mornings or schedule flexibility based on clinic or surgical volume.
