Job Description
Undiagnosed Cancer Clinic Specialty APP Inova Health System parental leave, paid time off United States, Virginia, Fairfax Mar 31, 2026 The Specialty Advanced Practice Provider exercises independent judgement in the assessment, diagnosis and initiation of medical processes and procedures, in accordance with the licensure regulations of the Commonwealth of Virginia, and as delineated in the written Scope of Practice and Protocol. Demonstrates respect for and an understanding of other clinical disciplines while using an integrated team-based approach to achieve desired patient outcomes. Utilizes evidenced based standards, guidelines and protocols for care delivery. Participates in quality and best practice initiatives by utilizing standards and guidelines for cost effective care delivery to continuously improve patient care and enhance outcomes. Performs high-quality clinical practices and effective patient management under physician supervision by following state regulations, including primary and secondary specialty care in clinical practice settings.

The Undiagnosed Clinic Advanced Practice Provider under general supervision and in accordance with APP standardized procedures/ protocol: Counsels and educates patients and families and monitors patient progress from initial visit to long term follow-up within the undiagnosed clinic. Coordinates comprehensive cancer assessment including diagnostic testing. Responsible for ongoing clinical management of the patient during their visits but works in collaboration with the patient's referring provider as well as other members of the patient's care team to ensure optimal patient experience and outcomes. Ensure patient information, visit history, refer outs, lab follow-up, phone calls, and consults are carefully and completely documented in the electronic medical record. Conducts in-depth interviews with patients and/or family, constructs comprehensive medical histories, performs initial and periodic physical examinations, and explores patient's interpretation of health needs. Identifies and treats patients' diseases. Participates in research efforts to include enrolling patients in clinical trials surrounding early detection including MCD tests and whole body imaging Directly performs or orders appropriate diagnostic studies and interprets finished results. Instructs and counsels patients and families regarding preventive care, medical problems, psychological problems, and use of prescribed treatments and drugs. Identifies and records pertinent progress of patients, updating and summarizing charts, changing orders when appropriate and notifying the responsible physician of changes in the patient's condition. Works with members of interdisciplinary team to ensure optimal patient experience and outcomes. Educates/coaches fellow staff members including RNs and medical assistants Participates in community/programmatic events per a defined work standard e.g 8 events per yearAdditional Requirements:

Mastersin Advanced Clinical Practice or graduate of a post masters certificate program for nurse practitioners, OR certificate from an education program that is accredited by the Council of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs/Schools, American College of Nurse Midwives, American Association of Colleges of Nursing of the National League for Nursing. For physician Assistants, graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program and certification by National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants. Certification - Basic Life Support prior to startLicensure:
Licensed Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner;If Nurse Practitioner:
RN Compact License(depending on State of primary residence) AND a license (or eligibility for) as a nurse practitioner or physician assistant in the Commonwealth of Virginia AND a "Practice Agreement" signed by sponsoring/ supervising physician(s), AND a written "Scope of Practice/Protocol" signed by the supervising physician, AND "Drug Enforcement Administration License" (if prescribing controlled substances)Payer Credentialing:
Ability to successfully complete the credentialing process by third-party payors and ability to enroll as a CMS Medicare/Medicaid payorMedical Staff Credentialing:
Successful completion of credentialing for Medical Staff membership and appropriate clinical privileges sufficient to perform all required services Preferred qualifications:Experience:
