Psychiatrist

JOB This is a non-merit position with the Iowa Department of Corrections. Positions in this class are exempt from the screening and referral requirements of the Iowa Department of Administrative Services - Human Resources Enterprise Candidates must follow the instructions in the "To Apply" section. Provide Direct Medical Care and Assessments for Incarcerated Individuals (I/Is)

• Complete I/I intake physicals and clinic at IMCC and other DOC facilities as delegated by the DOC Medical Director.
• Provide medical screening, including assessments of acute or chronic medical health problems, obtaining health and psychosocial history, performing complete physical examinations, and ordering diagnostic tests (labs, x-rays, EKGs, or referrals to off-site specialists at UIHC).
• Treat I/Is' acute injuries, including suturing lacerations or addressing emergent situations as they occur.
• Perform annual physical examinations as required by DOC policy, identifying and diagnosing newly found health problems.
• Monitor chronic medical diseases of I/Is as identified in the ICON medical system per DOC policy.
• Assess and monitor I/Is' deteriorating medical conditions, corresponding with the DOC Medical Director for possible transfer to UIHC.
• Be present during scheduled Telemed appointments to communicate medical knowledge and assessments to UIHC practitioners for accurate diagnosis and treatment.
