Videos Duties Help The Ophthalmologist performs duties of clinical, administrive and research management and th of the following duties: Conducts clinics several times per week and provides pre-operive and postoperive ophthalmology services for surgical pients Performs and supervises ophthalmic surgery including laser procedures in the opering room, minor surgery room, and laser room Provide non-operive Ophthalmology hospital rounds for ophthalmology pients Document services through approprie notes, such as History and Physical, Progress notes, Operive notes and Discharge Summaries Participes in morbidity and mortality reviews and conferences Educes residents and students in the principles and therapy of complex and basic ophthalmology surgery and services Performs administrive duties involved in the proper functioning of the Ophthalmology Section, Surgery Service Line Attending required staff meetings, communicing up and down the chain of command and helping prepare heads-up and issue briefs reled to adverse pient outcomes the direction if the Section Chief Clinical Management including indirect pient care: open encounter and open consult maintenance CPRS documention requirements and monitoring of clinic management Maintains involvement in mters concerning clinic productivity, relevant performance measures, Quality and Pient Safety oversight, as well as process improvements (system redesigns). If involved in research, they will show an ability to identify and define significant Research and Development problems, to plan and execute a precise research program, and to genere effective reports and results worthy of publicion. Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of educion in medicine or osteophic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a Ste, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United Stes, or in the District of Columbia.Residency Training:
Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certificion. (NOTE:
VA physicians involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty stus.) Approved residencies are: (1) Those approved by the Accredition Council for Gradue Medical Educion (ACGME), b) OR [(2) Those approved by the American Osteophic Associion (AOA),OR (3) Other residencies (non-US residency training programs followed by a minimum of five years of verified practice in the United Stes), which the local Medical Staff Executive Committee deems to have provided the applicant with approprie professional training and believes has exposed the physician to an approprie range of pient care experiences. Residents currently enrolled inACGME/AOA
accredited residency training programs and who would otherwise meet the basic requirements for appointment are eligible to be appointed as "Physician Resident Providers" (PRPs). PRPs must be fully licensed physicians (i.e., not a training license) and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee-basis. PRPs are not considered independent practitioners and will not be privileged; rher, they are to have a "scope of practice" th allows them to perform certain restricted duties under supervision. Additionally, surgery residents in gap years may also be appointed as PRPs. Proficiency in spoken and written English.Additional requirements:
