Meditech Position Overview A healthcare facility in Prestonsburg, Kentucky is seeking an experienced Gastroenterologist for a long-term locum tenens assignment. This opportunity offers a mix of outpatient clinic, endoscopy procedures, and shared call coverage with APP support available. The facility strongly prefers one provider who can offer consistent coverage but is open to two physicians alternating weeks. This is an excellent opportunity for a physician comfortable managing a broad range of GI conditions and performing both general and advanced GI procedures. Key Details $5,000-$5,200 per day 12-month locum assignment Monday-Friday schedule Clinic hours: 8:00 AM-5:00 PM Shared call coverage APP support provided Meditech EMR Virtual interview process Average of 12-14 procedures per day 24-hour rate includes approximately 6-8 hours onsite Responsibilities Evaluate, diagnose, and treat patients with gastrointestinal disorders Perform inpatient and outpatient GI consultations Conduct endoscopic procedures and therapeutic interventions Participate in shared call coverage Collaborate with APPs and multidisciplinary healthcare teams Document patient encounters within Meditech EMR Required ProceduresGeneral GI Upper Endoscopy (EGD) Colonoscopy Colonoscopy with polypectomy Flexible Sigmoidoscopy Diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures Advanced Procedures ERCP (required; moderate complexity) EUS not required EMR not required Additional Procedures Esophageal, duodenal, and luminal stent placement Argon plasma coagulation Esophageal dilation (balloon, bougie, or Savary) Foreign body removal via EGD PEG tube placement Non-variceal hemostasis (upper and lower GI) Enteral alimentation procedures GI motility studies and 24-hour pH monitoring Biopsies of the esophagus, stomach, small bowel, and colon Call Details Shared call schedule with another provider Offsite call coverage Emergency consultation response required within 30 minutes Routine consultation response required within 12 hours Average callback frequency: 1-2 times per week Most common call reason: Active GI bleeding Patient Population Providers should be comfortable treating a medically complex patient population with significant GI disease burden. Patients may present with advanced pathology, compliance challenges, and frequently involve family members in care discussions and treatment planning.
