Schedule may include nights, weekends, and holidays. The facility operates 24 hrs/day, 7 days/week, 365 days/year.POSITION OVERVIEW
The Regional Pain Anesthesiologist delivers advanced regional anesthesia and acute/chronic pain management services at WRNMMC. Leveraging fellowship-level expertise, the provider performs complex regional techniques—including ultrasound-guided nerve blocks and peripheral nerve catheters—for both surgical anesthesia and perioperative pain management.POSITION QUALIFICATION/REQUIREMENTS
Education:
Successfully completed an Undergraduate Program, Medical School (M.D. or D.O.), Internship, Residency Program, and a minimum 12-month Regional Anesthesia FellowshipLicensure:
Current license to practice as an Anesthesiologist in any U.S. state or the District of ColumbiaBoard Certification:
Board certified in Anesthesiology by the American Board of Anesthesiology (ABA). Must be a Diplomat of the ABA and an active participant in the MOCA program.Certifications:
Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advance Life Support (PALS) certification by the American Heart Association.Additional Certification/License:
- Maintain documentation of current Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) number. - Must obtain/maintain a 10-digit National Provider Identifier (NPI).Experience:
Minimum 5 years of active practice in regional anesthesiology. Successfully completed a Fellowship program or possess documented ability in advanced regional anesthesia techniques.DUTIES:
- Prepare and review case histories and obtain data through interviews of patients.
- Provide routine and emergent anesthesia care for neonatal through geriatric patients (ASA classifications I-VI).
- Administer appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic nerve blocks in the treatment of acute and chronic pain.
- Provide resuscitative care during a cardiopulmonary arrest, and sedation or general anesthetic care at remote locations.
- Assist in the activities of the recovery room and administer appropriate drug and respiratory therapy.
- Implement the proper use of mechanical ventilators in the recovery room and intensive care units.
- Interpret test results and evaluate findings.
- Work under the general professional direction of the Chief of Anesthesiology Services.
- Provide consultation and teaching services to MTF staff members and ambulatory clinics.
- Maintain accurate clinical records, receiving consultations and laboratory work for specific patients.
- Perform Personal and Medical Direction duties: preanesthetic evaluation, anesthesia plan development and implementation, induction, post-anesthesia care, and remaining physically available for the immediate diagnosis and treatment of emergencies.
- Prepare patients and, if necessary, equipment for procedures; perform invasive procedures.
- Maintain professional competency through participation in professional organizations, self-directed journal readings, and attendance at in-service and continuing education programs.
- Complete all forms and reports accurately and promptly.
- Provide patient education on therapy, medications, and procedures.
- Participate in clinic quality assurance, utilization review, risk management, and peer review activities.
- Attend medical staff meetings as required.
- Give two grand-round lectures via PowerPoint annually; participate in chapter reviews and case conferences.
- Perform other duties and tasks as assigned.
- Facilitate complex cases involving invasive monitoring and vasoactive infusions.
- Perform ultrasound-guided nerve blocks and peripheral nerve catheters for anesthesia and pain management.
- Serve as expert Anesthesiologist for Personal and Medical Direction duties.
- Recommend and guide Anesthesia residents, interns, medical students, and SRNAs in the conduct of general and regional anesthetics.
- Perform invasive procedures; prepare patients and equipment.

Must be comfortable in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Must be able and willing to reprioritize on short notice and work on multiple simultaneous projects. Flexible and able to work with various personalities. Team work skills required. Time management skills required. The ability to meet deadlines in a deadline intensive environment is essential.
