Job Description
Job Requirements For the provision of in-house and ambulatory obstetrics and gynecology coverage you shall diagnose, treat, and manage Hospital's obstetrics and gynecology inpatients and outpatients presenting to labor and delivery or the emergency department, in accordance with the Service's standard of care at the Hospital, including but not limited to the following: Care for and treat women during prenatal, natal and postpartum periods; Explain procedures and discuss test results or prescribed treatments with patients; Treat diseases female organs and monitor patients' condition and progress and reevaluate treatments as necessary; Perform cesarean sections or other surgical procedures as needed and for which you are privileged to preserve patients' health and deliver babies safely; Provide in-house coverage including evaluation and management for labor and delivery, in-house and emergency department obstetric and gynecologic consults as requested, and coverage of mother baby unit for gynecologic, antepartum and postpartum patients as scheduled Perform gynecologic and obstetric surgical procedures as indicated; Provide outpatient ambulatory services and procedures with a schedule developed and approved by the Vice President of Ambulatory Services of the University of Maryland Capital Region Medical Group and the System Medical Director or Women's and Infant Services and Subspecialty Programs; Prescribe or administer therapy, medication, and other specialized medical care to treat or prevent illness, disease, or injury; Analyze records, reports, test results, or examination information to diagnose medical condition of patient; Advise patients and community members concerning diet, activity, hygiene, and disease prevention; Refer patient to medical specialist or other practitioner when necessary; Provision patient consultations at the request an attending physician at the Hospital; Completion of appropriate documentation of patient care services in accordance with applicable law and regulations and the Hospital's policies and procedures governing patient medical records; Completion of appropriate documentation to support professional billing for services in accordance with applicable law and regulations and Employer's and the Hospital policies and procedures; Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and accreditation standards including but not limited to maintaining the confidentiality of patients' protected health information, in the performance of Physician's clinical duties; Direct and coordinate activities of nurses, students, assistants, specialists, therapists, and other medical staff; Plan, implement, or administer health programs in hospitals, businesses, or communities for prevention and treatment of injuries or illnesses; Prepare government and organizational reports on birth, death, and disease statistics, workforce evaluations, or the medical status of individuals; Conduct research to develop or test medications, treatments, or procedures to prevent or control disease or injury; and Perform other reasonable clinical duties as requested by the System Director of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Maternal and Fetal Medicine and Women's Health Specialty. Physician may be required to attend departmental meetings, as deemed necessary. Under the direction of the System Medical Director of Women and Infant Services for the University of Maryland Capital Region Health, you are expected to participate in patient quality and safety projects which include participation in physician medical record documentation review, Department and combined Peer Review, UMCAP Medical Group and Department meetings and other patient safety and quality initiatives. You are encouraged to participate in at least 75% of the Department and combined Peer Review meetings and at least 75% of UMCAP Medical Group and Department Meetings. You are expected to provide 4 x 24 hour per month inpatient hospital coverage and 1 x 8 hr per week outpatient ambulatory and surgical activity or an equivalent commensurate with an annual 0.6 FTE. This includes a combination of 12-hour or 24-hour in-house coverage shifts and 8-hour outpatient ambulatory coverage shifts which includes weekdays and weekends In-house inpatient obstetrics and gynecology coverage shifts include labor and delivery coverage, emergency department and inpatient consultations, obstetric and gynecologic surgical procedures as determined indicated and necessary. You will also be scheduled for compensated unrestricted back-up coverage for Hospital as needed. You are expected to comply with all Department policies and guidelines as documented in the Departmental policies and procedures. You are expected to participate in learner's education as required by UMCAP, LCME, and ACGME. Learners include students, residents, and fellows as assigned by their respective specialties and departments and approved by the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. During the term of this Term Sheet and while providing obstetrics and gynecology coverage for Employer and/or at Hospital, you will obtain and maintain electronic fetal monitoring certification as provided by the National Certification Corporation (NCC). Additionally, you will participate in the Relias fetal monitoring modules and other educational activities regarding fetal monitoring and other patient safety and quality initiatives as determined by Employer, Hospital, the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and the University of Maryland Medical System OB Council.
