; Position Details Position Information Position Type Professional Staff Faculty Track Position Title Histology and Imaging Core Manager Employment Status Full Time Months 12 Campus Biddeford, ME Description The Core Manager oversees the NIH-supported Histology and Imaging Core (HIC) facility at UNE. The HIC supports the scientific needs of investigators both within and outside the University. The HIC accepts projects on a fee-for-service basis, and provides equipment access for student, staff, and faculty. The HIC also provides technical consultation and training of investigators and their research staff. The HIC's range of histological services includes fixation, embedding (OCT, paraffin, methylmethacrylate) and sectioning. The HIC also offers chemical and immunological staining for a wide variety of tissues and species, as well as multiplex fluorescent in situ mRNA hybridization. A particular strength of the HIC is in the processing and analysis of nervous tissue and bone. The HIC's imaging capabilities include confocal, two-photon and light sheet fluorescent microscopy. The Core Manager will report to and work closely with the HIC Director and the COBRE Director. The Core Manager will oversee and coordinate the efforts of the HIC's technical staff, delegating work to them as needed and supporting their professional development. The Core Manager will oversee HIC instrumentation, coordinate and track its usage, arrange for its service and maintenance, and train and assist investigators in its proper care and use. The Core Manager will maintain effective communication with the HIC's existing users and recruit new users. Educational benefits: UNE tuition waiver for employees, spouses, and domestic partners For more information about our outstanding benefits, please visit: UNE Benefits Overview Responsibilities Facilitate the tissue processing and imaging needs of its users Employ standard histology and light microscopy techniques Provide training and technical assistance to Core users Supervise Core technicians and work-study students Assist investigators in the design and troubleshooting of histological and imaging protocols Investigate and implement new techniques based on user needs Create and maintain SOPs for Core procedures and draft technical protocols for publications Communicate with external academic and commercial entities Represent and promote the Core at regional and national conferences Establish and update Core fee structure Maintain work logs and records of equipment utilization Generate invoices for services rendered and provide estimates for work inquiries Oversee and maintain Core equipment and inventory Maintain the laboratory in a clean and safe condition Perform other related duties as assigned Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Biology, Neuroscience or another appropriate discipline, plus six years of relevant experience with research methods, or a combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills have been acquired.
